DEADLY INTENT

Send us a text

If you’ve just discovered Deadly Intent… welcome.
I'm Carman Carrion — a researcher, writer, and the creator of podcasts like Freaky Folklore and Destination Terror.

But here — on Deadly Intent — we explore a different kind of darkness.
Not the monsters of myth… but the real ones.
The ones that walk among us.

This show is about why people kill.
Not just what they did — but what led them to do it.
Their intent.

Because in the end…
 It’s not the act itself…
 …but the intent behind it…
that separates accident from murder, passion from premeditation, and revenge from justice.

Every episode examines a criminal case through the lens of motive and psychology.
From notorious serial killers like Robert Hansen…
To cold cases, twisted family crimes, and killers who hide in plain sight.

If you want to hear chilling true stories told with empathy, depth, and detail — you're in the right place.
Start with any episode that grabs your attention… but listeners often recommend:

·         The Butcher Baker – A mild-mannered baker who hunted women like animals in the Alaskan wilderness.

·         Albert Fish — The Boogeyman – A sadistic predator whose crimes became some of the most horrific and psychologically disturbing in American history.

·         Or our deeper dives into lesser-known predators whose motives are even harder to untangle.

This isn’t sensationalism.
 This isn’t about gore.
This is about understanding how darkness grows… and how it hides.

Subscribe now.
 And remember:
 It’s not the act…
 …it’s the intent.

The case involves systematic predation of vulnerable women, descriptions of psychological and physical abuse, and detailed hunting methods used against human victims. Listener discretion is strongly advised.

In 1991, police discovered seventeen dismembered bodies in Jeffrey Dahmer's Milwaukee apartment. But the murders were just the beginning of a psychological horror that defied comprehension. For thirteen years, Dahmer had been pursuing something far more disturbing than killing - he was trying to build a world where no one could ever leave him again.

Join host Carman Carrion as she dissects the twisted psychology behind one of America's most methodical killers. From his childhood experiments with roadkill to his attempts at creating living "zombies," Dahmer's crimes reveal an intent so calculated and disturbing that it challenges our understanding of evil itself.

This episode explores:

• The childhood trauma that shaped Dahmer's deadly obsession with control

• How he perfected his hunting techniques over nine years of preparation

• The institutional failures that allowed him to kill undetected for over a decade

• Why his true intent was possession, not murder

• The chilling psychology of someone who ate his victims to keep them "forever"

Warning: This episode contains detailed discussions of murder, cannibalism, and extreme psychological violence. Listener discretion advised.

On Halloween night 1974, eight-year-old Timothy O'Bryan died from cyanide-laced candy given to him by the one person who should have protected him—his own father. This wasn't a random act of violence or an urban legend come to life. It was calculated murder dressed up as Halloween tragedy, and it changed how America celebrates October 31st forever.

🎧 An Entire Town Knows What Happened to Crystal Rogers — But Won’t Say. Here’s Why.

When 35-year-old mother of five Crystal Rogers vanished from Bardstown, Kentucky, her disappearance seemed like a tragic mystery. But what followed exposed something far darker: a chilling pattern of unsolved murders, corruption, and silence in a town of just 13,000 people.

Her car was found abandoned on the Bluegrass Parkway—keys in the ignition, purse and phone inside—but no sign of Crystal. Then her father was shot and killed while searching for her. A police officer ambushed. A mother and daughter murdered in their home. All unsolved. All in Bardstown.

Eight years later, Crystal’s boyfriend Brooks Houck has finally been charged with her murder—yet her body has never been found. As investigators dig deeper, a terrifying question remains:
👉 Is Bardstown hiding a killer… or protecting a network of them?

Host Carman Carrion investigates the web of violence, secrecy, and power that turned “the Bourbon Capital of the World” into one of America’s most haunted true-crime mysteries.

Season 1, Episode 11 – Deadly Intent

This episode examines Albert Fish, a serial killer whose intent went beyond murder—he weaponized his victims' suffering through calculated psychological torture, sending horrific confession letters to families and fundamentally changing how America thinks about child safety and stranger danger. Through the lens of criminal intent, host Carman Carrion explores how Fish's systematic psychological warfare extended across decades and generations, why he needed the world to know exactly what he was capable of, and what his case reveals about the nature of evil itself. The episode also examines modern child safety research, debunking the "stranger danger" myth Fish helped create, and offers evidence-based guidance for protecting children without teaching them to fear the world.

Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of violence against children, psychological torture, and disturbing criminal behavior. Listener discretion is advised.

Deadly Intent – Season 1, Episode 10

Imagine dying of tuberculosis at 22, your body laid to rest in a mausoleum by your grieving family. Now imagine that your death wasn't the end---that a man who claimed to love you stole your body, took it home, and spent seven years replacing your decomposing flesh with wire, wax, and silk, dressing you in your wedding gown, and sleeping beside your preserved corpse. This is the true story of Elena Milagro de Hoyos and the man who couldn't let her go.

In this haunting episode of Deadly Intent, host Carman Carrion examines one of the most bizarre and disturbing cases in American true crime history: the story of Carl Tanzler, a German-born radiologist who became so obsessed with a young tuberculosis patient that he stole her corpse and lived with it for seven years in Key West, Florida. Between 1933 and 1940, Tanzler meticulously preserved Elena's body, maintaining the illusion that she was still alive, while her family searched for answers about their daughter's disturbed grave.

Through court records, medical testimony, and contemporaneous newspaper accounts, we explore how delusion, obsession, and necrophilia intersected in a case that shocked Depression-era America. We'll examine how Tanzler justified his actions through claims of supernatural romance and spiritual communication. We'll investigate the medical techniques he used to preserve Elena's body---techniques that reveal a chilling level of premeditation. And we'll confront the most disturbing question: How did he get away with it?

This is the story of a man whose obsession transcended death itself---and the young woman who became a prisoner even in her grave.

Deadly Intent, Season 1, Episode 9

Imagine searching desperately for your missing daughter while your neighbor—someone you've known for years—offers sympathy and support. Now imagine discovering that same neighbor murdered your child and watched you grieve. This is exactly what happened to the Reade family in 1963, when their 16-year-old daughter Pauline disappeared after accepting a ride from their neighbor, Myra Hindley.

In this haunting episode of Deadly Intent, host Carman Carrion examines how Myra Hindley and her boyfriend Ian Brady weaponized trust itself, using familiarity and Hindley's non-threatening appearance to access victims who would never have gone with a strange man. Between 1963 and 1965, they murdered five children, burying them on Saddleworth Moor in Northern England. But their cruelty didn't end with murder—it extended to the psychological torture of victims' families, as Brady and Hindley studied the aftermath of their crimes up close.

Through court records, police testimony, and forensic evidence, we explore how this couple developed a shared intent to not just kill, but to corrupt the fundamental bonds of community and trust. We'll examine how Hindley's essential role in the crimes challenges our assumptions about female killers and male-female criminal partnerships. We'll investigate the evidence that finally exposed them—including photographs they took of burial sites and disturbing audio recordings of their victims. And we'll confront the question that divided Britain for decades: Was Myra Hindley a manipulated victim herself, or an equal partner in evil?

The families of two victims—Keith Bennett and initially Pauline Reade—spent decades searching the moors without knowing their neighbors had been watching them grieve. This is the story of the Moors Murders, and the monsters who hid behind friendly faces.

CONTENT WARNING
This episode contains discussions of child murder, sexual assault, psychological trauma, and disturbing audio evidence. Listener discretion is strongly advised.

Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of domestic violence, mental health crises, bizarre murder methods, and detailed descriptions of crime scenes involving gaming equipment. The case also involves discussions of delusion and psychological breaks from reality. Listener discretion is advised.

Season 1, Episode 8: “Game Over”

In April 2013, Fort Lauderdale police responded to what they initially thought might be a domestic dispute gone wrong. What they found instead was a crime scene so bizarre it reads like something from a video game horror story—a young woman beaten to death with a gaming console by her boyfriend, who claimed he was fighting for his very soul.

Monica Gooden was just 25 years old, working hard to build a life in South Florida with her boyfriend Darrius Johnson. She had no way of knowing that Johnson's grip on reality was slipping, or that his Xbox 360 would become the weapon that ended her life in a delusional attempt to free his soul from what he believed was her supernatural control.

Host Carman Carrion explores this tragic case where gaming culture, mental health crisis, and domestic violence collided in the most unexpected way. From Johnson's bizarre claims about astrological assassination to his conviction that Gooden "would not die" like some video game boss, this case reveals how delusion can transform everyday objects into instruments of unthinkable violence.

What drives someone to believe murder is the only escape from imaginary control? How does a gaming console become a murder weapon? And what can this tragic case teach us about recognizing the warning signs of someone losing their grip on reality?
