Being the only female Oud player in concerts and performances which are dominated by men, Amal Waqar and I discuss about dealing with Imposter Syndrome.   We begin the episode with a wonderful performance by her of one of her own composition.  

Diving into her journey, speaking of her multi cultured background, her love for Oud, her understanding of inclusiveness and recognizing the efforts she is putting in to pave the way for many. This is one of my favorite conversations.

About Amal: 

Amal Waqar is a young, dynamic Indo-Omani and Colombian-American oud player, composer, and vocalist. Starting her musical journey at fifteen through events and performances with local groups, including the Oman Oud Hobbyists Association, Amal has experienced multiple metamorphoses over her brief career. Mainly studying and performing Classical Arabic and folk styles until the global pandemic, Amal has now switched her focus to developing her own experimental sound inspired by pop, avant-garde, and Arab folk styles. She holds a Bachelor’s in Music from Berklee College of Music, where she studied privately with oud master Simon Shaheen.
