Dear Glucose

Listen Later

Are you really what you eat? Most of the research seems to point that direction. At least we can say that what you put in your body has an enormous effect on how you experience your life.

Meet Glucose, that wonderful saccharine molecule that has a tendency to break down arterial walls and pump the pancreas for all of its insulin. It's the bad guy in so many diets. Yet when eaten after other foods, those foods often nullify the blood glucose spikes that are the hallmark of diabetes. Simply the order the food is eaten changes that. And that's just one way to play nicely with the bad guy so Mr. Glucose doesn't bully your innards as much.

Today we’ll talk about this more. Have a listen.

Highlights:

  • She’s very careful to mention that you are the scientist of your own life. If it doesn’t work, change it up. (6:20)
  • When handling one part of the human body well, it cascades to other things. When handling two parts well, it seems to give exponential help to the body. (7:40)
  • Making the argument that you get all these antioxidants from a big spoon of honey is not going to work when they can all be gained in a blueberry. (:)
  • It was all sugar. It’s no longer a gas station, it’s a sugar station that happens to sell gas. (26:00)
