Join Becca and Andrea this week as they interview Heidi and Isabelle Perla about graduating college in the year 2020...right when the COVID news broke. This episode will touch on really difficult topics like how it felt to not have a graduation ceremony, job recruitment during COVID, living at home during this process, and how that has affected Isabelle and her mom's relationship. This situation is NOT unique to many mothers and daughters right now, so tune in to hear an honest conversation with Isabelle and her mom. And...at the end, we get a skincare tip from the skin care expert herself (@skin_nydipping on Instagram)!!
Yes yes, we know it has been a while, but this Fall has been insane! From the normal Autumn stressors to COVID, the world has been rapidly changing, so when the election came around it hit everyone pretty hard emotionally. It feels like it impacted every person in the country so heavily, that it forced people to stop and sit with their emotions whether they wanted to or not.
In this week's episode, we debrief our pre, during, and post-election feelings and how it impacted us the past two weeks: inability to do work, lack of focus, tears, laughter, and everything in between.
Tune in to this week's episode as Becca and Andrea move from talking about how stress manifests in their lives, to how their stress dissipates. As we know, mothers and daughters can definitely stress one another out, but due to the weight and importance of the relationship to one another, a mother-daughter relationship can also be the strongest tool in helping relieve anxiety.
Join us as Becca and Andrea reminisce about times they have helped each other relieve stress, as well as their favorite ways to purge themselves of stress through cooking, dancing, exercise, etc. Look out for the DMLD newsletter with special links to recipes and playlists! Yes! Dear Mom, Love Daughter, is back from a much-needed vacation before the chaos of the fall begins. Tune in this week to hear what stresses Becca and Andrea out, how these anxieties affect their relationship, and their goals on how to improve upon how they address these stresses for the coming year.
In the midst of Becca and Andrea's time off from work, organization, and habits of daily life, they realized they needed to address their stresses head-on, so they could start the fall with a cleansed and clear slate. Stress can be a parasite in areas of our lives we don't even notice until it's too late.
In this episode, Becca and Andrea discuss the ways in which their respective stresses can be toxic in different areas of their lives...as well as how, sometimes, stress is a good thing. Stress is a feeling our bodies produce for a reason, and the key is looking at it head-on to figure out how to address it.
I guess...I think...But...I'm so sorry if this is wrong...In this week's episode of DMLD, Becca and Andrea talk about female self-advocacy, self-promotion, communication style, and confidence. Despite being at different stages of life, this is a topic that Andrea and Becca find themselves talking about time and time again.
While men often come across as confident and ambitious in the workplace and in social settings...even regarding things they may have not yet accomplished, women often feel shameful for promoting their accomplishments. This comes across in the way women speak, interact, and even expressed through body language.
If women can't be confident and certain about what they KNOW to be true within themselves, then what can they be certain about in life?
Dear Mom, Love SON (Part 2 of 2)?! Yes, this is still an episode of Dear Mom, Love Daughter, but with a twist!
This episode is a continuation of Becca and Andrea's conversation with Bonnie and Gabriel Beer...a mother-son duo. Bonnie, who loves "all things girly", is a mother of three boys, but always dreamed of having a daughter. Tune into this episode to learn how Bonnie raised her boys to embrace their individualism, and combat societal pressures and stereotypes. Gabriel reflects on growing up in a house of all boys and his respect and admiration for his mom.
In this portion of the episode Becca, Andrea, Bonnie, and Gabriel dive into the topic of emotions and how public figures and interpretations of "stereotypical" boys feed into the way young men process emotions.
Dear Mom, Love SON (Part 1 of 2)?! Yes, this is still an episode of Dear Mom, Love Daughter, but with a twist! Or is it really a twist?
In this week's episode, Becca and Andrea interview Bonnie and Gabriel Beer...a mother-son duo. Bonnie, who loves "all things girly", is a mother of three boys, but always dreamed of having a daughter. Tune into this episode to learn how Bonnie raised her boys to embrace their individualism, and combat societal pressures and stereotypes. Given that this is the 10th episode of DMLD, Becca and Andrea have done a lot of thinking about how the real meaning behind this podcast is not only relatable for mothers and daughters but any parent-child relationship.
In this week's episode, it is the first time that Becca and Andrea are not recording the podcast in the same physical space. Becca has moved out and into her apartment near her university and Andrea is still at home. Becca and Andrea dive into a difficult and honest conversation on why Becca was so adamant about moving out and how Andrea feels about all of this.
It is a strange feeling when you realize for the first time that as much as you want to take the positive things you learned from your parents into your adult life, that there are also things you don't want to take with you. This is a weird and difficult transition for both the child and the parent. Do parents get offended by hearing this even though they may think the same way about their own parents? By engaging in this discussion, Becca and Andrea say some pretty hard things, but discover a common ground of mutual respect. Tune in to get to TEA!
In this week's episode, Becca and Andrea discuss the topic of "fear of failure". It is something that Andrea has always struggled with and Becca... not so much. Was this fearlessness due to nature or nurture for Becca? Tune in to learn how Andrea (along with the rest of the family) raised Becca to not fear failure but to embrace it.
Becca revels over the fact that Andrea has instilled this willingness to fail and learn from mistakes without having self-doubt, and yet, Andrea has had this insecurity for so long. How can a parent raise a child to have such a strong trait, yet struggle with it themselves? What makes you afraid of failure? Have you been supported and encouraged to fall down and stand up even stronger, and how can we continue to learn how to do that?
In this week's episode, Becca and Andrea interview Krissa and Karen Lamore. Krissa and Karen lead us through the topic of evolution and what that means for a mother-daughter relationship. Join Becca and Andrea as they learn about Krissa's 4 years in Hawaii where she went to WOOF (Work on Organic Farms), came back with a financé, and was supposed to travel around the USA in a trailer...but Krissa EVOLVED and it ended up being a transition into the passion-filled life that she lives today.
Tune in to hear about Krissa's journey and how her mom, Karen, guided her through it. Karen explains how the best way of helping in that time of evolution was not by dictating how she thought or wanted Krissa's life to go, but by asking her questions so she could answer to herself what she really wanted and needed most.
Evolution is something that everyone goes through, in all phases of life...after all, it is human nature. Evolution is not easy; it often comes with frustration and pain, but always results in the satisfaction of getting closer to our truest selves.
