This week, Julia sits down with Katie Kane, an established business woman and entrepreneur that she both works for and looks up to a lot. Katie shares her post-grad experience in retrospect, and talks about how she had to keep pushing to get her foot in the door in the beginning of her career. She gives incredible advice on getting through the first few years after college, because she's been through it herself and knows how tough it can be. She also talks about starting her own business and balancing both that and her career.
Katie graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City in 2006. From there, she worked in retail at Ralph Lauren, and eventually found herself on the project management team at Tory Burch in the early years of the company. She stayed at Tory Burch until she had her son Lincoln, and then moved back to her hometown to be close to family and raise her son. There, she worked for SaveAround, Inc. as a project manager where she is still working today.
In 2017, she started her own business called Simply Tan, a custom, mobile spray-tanning business. This came from numerous personal skin cancer scares, along with her father's melanoma diagnosis. There are now two locations for Simply Tan, Binghamton, NY and Naperville, IL, and she works to donate money from sales to Melanoma research.
