Murder capital of Europe
By density of population Sutherland's murder & suicide rate surely exceeds that of Midsomer, maybe NY or Chicago! Sad to say, the body count and level of violence seems to be growing, in line with the present fashion for explicit butchery, but it hasn't YET reached the point that I stop listening/reading to the series.
Hamish is getting more crabbit and thrawn. He can be kind and wise, but he's more often abrupt and unsociable. His unwanted live-in constables, remarkably domesticated to a man, find true love, whereas Hamish just can't do relationships of a constant nature.
The antics of the egregious Blair (the other one) would get Holyrood in a right stooshie if at all likely. Unfortunately I've got fond of many of the peripheral folk - the Currie twins, the Brodies, Wellingtons, Mr Patel, Archie, the ex-polis Hamish has driven to catering, etc, so unless the abattoir factor gets too much, or a new narrator is employed, I'll have to keep on listening.
Puerile
light reading / diversion / entertainment is fine & had been my expectation but this is characterised & narrated for primary school, with hideously incongruous grownup elements clunkily / thoughtlessly sellotaped-on..cue sqeaky parodied lady voice Ive been raped; awful, small-minded nonsense.
Entertaining
As always a great listen - with familiar figures and a new Murder with its twists and turns, mystery, romance and humour all in one story - enough to keep ones interest - on a wet windy winter day !!
Hugely enjoyable
Once again the wonderful stories of Hamish Macbeth as a policeman in the Scottish highlands doesn't fail to enchant and delight.
