This sermon explores the theme of persevering through persecution by examining the Apostle Peter's instructions to scattered believers in Asia Minor. The preacher emphasizes the necessity of spiritual growth, urging Christians to move from the milk of the word to strong meat while laying aside sinful behaviors. Key theological points include the identity of believers as living stones built upon Christ, the chief cornerstone, and their calling to live holy lives amidst a hostile culture. Christ refers to His death by speaking of an Old Testament figure of a "cup" and a "baptism." His death was physical and literal but its effect was spiritual and demonstrated figuratively. In Romans Paul explains that the "seed of Christ" was justified at the cross. He asks, does this permit ongoing sin? He states: "God forbid." This truth is symbolized by the believer's baptism by immersion. In fact, as Christ was resurrected, we are "to walk in the newness of life."

How can we remain faithful and steady when our motives are questioned and our plans change? We remain faithful and steady by living before God, with a clear conscience, speaking honestly standing upon the promises in Christ and remembering that his spirit has marked us as his own

This sermon examines Genesis 3:1-11 to illustrate humanity's fallen state and the necessity of divine grace for salvation.
