In our Nov 23 Sunday gathering we explore how Jesus’ death, resurrection and ascension conquered sin, death and the devil.

Discussion Questions:
Which part of Jesus’ story—his life, death, resurrection, or ascension—have you
personally emphasized most in your own understanding of the faith? Why?
Was there anything in today’s message that surprised you, challenged you, or reframed
something you grew up hearing?
How did you first hear the “why” behind Jesus’ death growing up? Was it encouraging,
confusing, or frightening?
The sermon suggested that love requires consequences and real agency. How does that
idea help (or not help) you understand why sin can’t simply be “magicked away”?
Which atonement images in Scripture (ransom, victory, healing, sacrifice, substitute,
etc.) resonate most with you? Which feel less intuitive?
How do you respond to the idea that Christians agree on what Jesus accomplished, but
not why it required his death? Does this diversity feel freeing or unsettling?
Have you ever heard PSA presented in ways similar to the “cultural version” described
in the sermon? What effect did it have on your picture of God?
Do you think PSA can be presented in a healthy, love-centered way? What would that
look like?
How does hearing that there are multiple historic, orthodox explanations for the cross
affect your conversations with non-religious friends or those deconstructing?
The sermon said that the resurrection is the heartbeat of the gospel. How does that shift
your focus or understanding of Christianity?
Why do you think the early church emphasized the resurrection far more than explaining
the mechanics of atonement?
What difference does it make—emotionally, spiritually, practically—if Jesus is actually
alive right now?
What would you say to someone who wants the resurrection to be true but struggles to
believe it?
How does it impact your prayer life to know that Jesus intercedes for you as a human
who understands human weakness?
