Echoes of Aincrad feels like a more deliberate and challenging take on the Sword Art Online formula, bringing in Souls-like combat, stamina management, companion mechanics, gear upgrades, open-world exploration, and a stronger sense of danger than I expected.

I break down the opening dungeon, character creation, the Town of Beginnings, the return of Akihiko Kayaba’s Game Master moment, weapon variety, companion abilities, and the first major boss fight that gave me a real difficulty spike.

For SAO fans, this preview left me feeling like Echoes of Aincrad could be one of the more exciting entries in the franchise if the full game builds on this foundation.
