Well, after our bumpy start due to internet network issues last week, we’re going to continue our exploration of some of the ways Christianity and culture have buddied up to colonize non-European peoples. We could, of course, be exploring the ways in which that same dynamic duo made positive contributions, because no story is one dimensional. That said, as I heard someone recently point out, a fire department exists to keep everyone safe, but you send them to the house that is on fire. And this time in history, pandemic and all, seems to be offering some unique openings for challenging conversations on this topic. This is one of the houses that is on fire, so let’s see if there’s a positive contribution we can make, starting with growing our own knowledge about how we got here and how that might inform a better path forward. I suppose some would regard it as an open question whether a positive contribution is stoking this particular fire or trying to put it out. Hmmm….
If you are curious about Part 1 but either missed last week or gave up in frustration with the interrupted live stream, the best way to get an efficient (read: shorter) and glitch-free recap is to listen to the podcast version, which is available here, or on your favourite podcast service.
We’ll gather at 10:45 a.m. here for some tuneage and a community check in, and then on to the Talky Bit, followed (this week at 12:15) by And Lunch After, our most popular Zoom hangout. There’s a Wednesday one (7:30 p.m.) as well. Links are below.
