Welcome to Decomposed Radio 093.
Here at Techno Towers, we're still reeling from the amazing "galloWay fEST" up in the Scottish Borders which was an incredible display of the talent and creativity that we're lucky enough to be surrounded by, which was the original inspiration to creating the podcast, to give it all a platform.
With that in mind welcome another new artist to the Decomposed Radio Roster... Funkness Device.
Also known as Steve Cox he's a "lifer" climber now living out in Spain, but still with firm roots in the Peak District. The set we're featuring today was recorded at "Tribe of Frog" in Spain where it went down an absolue storm. For those of you not in the know... Tribe of Frog are the UK's legendary psychadelic party producers originating in Bristol that specialise in spectacular decor, cutting edge techno, psy-trance and more. It still runs regularly down in Bristol, while the original owners Chris and Donna Rana continue to put on nights out in the Costa Blanca, featuring sun, sea, cervezas, psy-trance and techno...... which all sounds pretty good to me!
As a DJ, Funkness Device likes to take the crowd on a journey, which is definitely what it's all about and as such his mix is a bit of a marathon mission through nu disco, breakbeats, tech house, dark deep acid techno and psy-trance.... so definitely something for everyone!!
So settle yourselves in and get lost in the music. This is Decomposed Radi show 093, with Funkness Device........
You're back with Decomposed Radio! For show 92 we're heading back to 1992, and the release date of one of my favourite albums... "Experience" by the Prodigy. It's high time to flip the cassette and check out side 2 of "Sam's Piano Tape" that I know alot of people have been waiting for. We've had some incredible feedback and psyche from Side 1 on Show 91 and it seems everyone's really enjoyed turning the clock back to a simpler time with great vibes and great sounds! Piano house, happy hardcore and bouncy techno are what it's all about, and smiling faces at wild warehouse raves are clearly the order of the day. I'll keep it brief, as those of you that have listened to show 91 are fully clued up by now, but I just want to do a big shout out and thanks to Sam Townsend for providing the psyche and energy to get these two amazing mixes onto the show.If you enjoy both sides of Sam's Piano Tape as much as everyone seems to be then it's worth rewinding the Decomposed Radio clock and checking out show number 12 all the way back in 2016. The "Back 2 Skool Mix" featured on that show should definitely hit some of the same notes! We're rapidly hurtling towards our one hundredth show, so expect something very special for that, not to mention some mixes from Decomposed Radio favourites over the next few months. In the meantime however, here's what you've all been waiting for......... Sam's Piano Tape side 2.....for Decomposed Radio show 092. Get those hands right back in the air!!!!!
For Decomposed Radio show 091 we're rewinding back to the early 90's.
The dole and Stoney Dale scene of the 80's has given way to bolts in Chee Dale and sport climbing trips to Buoux or Ceuse, whilst the gritstone lies asleep, waiting for the release of Hard Grit a few years later to re-awaken the psyche.
Bouldering is in it's infancy, and nobody has even heard of a crash pad, however...... there is another new and growing scene reaching fever pitch around Hunter's Bar... RAVING!!
Dance music has yet to really split into it's sub genres, but by far the most fun and main focus for the time was "happy hardcore" and "bouncy techno." If there didn't happen to be on the infamous "Foundry parties" happening, gags of climbers could be seen piling ito 205 GTI's, giddy with excitement and heading off for all nighters such as the BYO in Doncaster, or Vibalite in Mansfield. Pre instgram, facebook, CDJ's and Traktor, one take vinyl mixes were carefully and lovingly recorded on C90 cassettes. Sam Townsend, and student in Manchester at the time had brought such a mixtape back home to Hathersage where it resided at his holiday job behind the counter at Outside.
Simply known as "Sam's Piano Tape" it became a massive favourite with the crew there and before long, it seemed that half the Sheffield climbing scene had a copy! Despite the kudos Sam earned, he guiltily admits it wasn't his wizardry behind the decks, but that of his mate Sunil's with whom he's long since lost tough. (If you're out there listening Sunil.. RESPECT!!!)
Luckily the tape survived despite hundreds of plays, and Sam's managed to get it digitised and cleaned up. So here it is for your listening pleasure.... get your white gloves out, crack out the glow sticks, shout out to the whistle posse and get your hands in the air... for Sam's Piano Tape side 1, on Decomposed Radio #091........
Decomposed Radio show 090 (or should it be 909 ;) ) is LIVE! Featuring a live improvised techno set from "Alkis" it's one for the techno connoisseurs, and not for the faint hearted! With a background in electronics Alkis is right at home with analogue synths and beats, and specialises in hypnotic melodies, abrasive acid sounds and spacey synthtic rhythms, all created on a pure hardwear setup. Every set is live, unique and unrepeatable, and if you're a fan of artists like Jeff Mills and Surgeon..... you're in the right place! The set was recorded at "Bagfest" a small festival in Nottinghamshire.... that sounds like it would make Robin Hood proud!!!! Enoy.......!
Here in Sheffield, we're still reeling from the outrageous "Works Party".... all 3 phases of it!!
That said, the music doesn't stop and it's high time for another Decomposed Radio installment. For show 089 we have the DJ known as "Bleaklow" who's a familiar face as one of the organisers behind Ulterior - officially Sheffield's funnest techno night.
Also know as Miriam Dobson, Bleaklow's renowned for high energy techno with a dusting of acid thrown in for good measure. Today's show features a live recording of her set from the Saturday night of this year's underground and always outstanding Lakes Party, in the infamous Freeborn Man techno tent. It features tough, tonal and sometimes trancey techno and is as uniquely awesome as all the sets we feature on the show.
So crank it right up...... this is Decomposed Radio 089... with Bleaklow......
It's high time for another Decomposed Radio installment!
Up this time is "Fen" also known as George Boynton, a name some of you will recognise from a previous Decomposed Radio episode that was a real fan favourite, under the previous DJ moniker "Brutalist." Fen is also the creative psyched and genius behind one of the Sheffield techno scene's most legit nights "Magnetic North" that specialises in meta-physical rhythms from Sheffield, Manchester and beyond! For the first time in nearly 2 years Magnetic North returns to Sheffield and the lineup is weighing in heavy with DJs inbound from Berlin and London, all powered by Sheffield's very own RAZE soundsystem, at the prestigious Hope Works venue on the 24th of November. Tickets are available on Resident Advisor, so save the date and check out the Magnetic North instagram page for more intel. In terms of the mix for Decomposed Radio 088, it's the usual sonic mission we've come to expect from George. With deep hypnotic tracks, industrial crunch and bouncy grooves that's all set to become another firm favourite, and the catalyst for many a request to get him back on the show again. It's a great representation of the pace and energy he creates on the dancefloor, so get stuck in.... This is Fen..... in the mix.... for Decomposed Radio 088.
Push on!!!!!
For Decomposed Radio 087 it's time to welcome another talented new artist to the roster... "Flostate"
Currently residing in the steel city, Flostate learned and developed her DJ craft in the constantly emerging techno hotspot of North Wales, and hasn't looked back since.
Heavily influenced by artists such as Dr. Rubenstein, but with her unique brand Acid Techno that she loves and is super passionate about, she's put together a phenomenal insightful mix which is a fantastic example of the different moods within this genre-within-a-genre, that's all set to become a listener favourite.
So settle yourselves in for this deep dive into the acid techno depths, with Flostate... on Decomposed Radio shoe 087.....
With everyone still reeling from Steve Worth's epic sonic expedition on show 085, it seemed only right to come up for air for a bit before heading back under for the next dose.
Sure enough, for show 086, we've got another smasher!
Elliot Shiel is rapidly becoming a name to watch and listen out for if you're a techno connoisseur, which we all are....
After being inspired to dive into DJing whilst surrounded by the climbing and techno scene at Uni and providing the soundtrack for many a wild house party, the cat well and truly got out of the bag after a polished and professional debut set at the infamous "Works Party" a few years back, which was one of the highlights of the main event.
This led to plenty more top notch sets at some great events, such as Sheffield's funnest techno night "Ulterior."
So get stuck in for this outstanding blend of deep and melodic techno and house, from Elliot Shiel on Decomposed Radio show 086......
Welcome again to Decomposed Radio...
The name Steve Worth will be very familiar to regular listeners of the show, having already provided us with a mega mix of tech house and techno back in the early days, for show 023! So I'm very happy to say he's back again, and this time hasn't just stepped it up, but more like smashed it right out of the park with an outrageous indulgent mix of mammoth proportions that you're guaranteed not to tire of, and are gonna want to return to again and again.
It was recorded at the iconic, weird, wild and wonderful North Wales venue "The Fricsan" which it's great to hear is back up and at 'em again.
The mix has pretty much everything in there, all seamlessly blended as we've come to expect! So enough from me, ramp up the psyche level and lock yourself in, for Steve Worth recorded live, for Decomposed Radio 085...........
Welcome to Decomposed Radio show 084. As promised, we've not just got show favourites lined up, but also some new up and coming faces, the first of which is "Cavey."
Well known in climbing and mountaineering circles, Andy Cave is another example of a very accomplished climber for whom music is a key part of life and general psyche, and has channeled their creative energies into DJing with fantastic results.
Brought up in a house full of vinyl, Cavey was always set to develop a classy and eclectic musical taste including the sounds of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the Indie and Acid House scene. This combined with witnessing DJ sets by many of the greats at iconic events like the early days of Sonar and Cocoon in The Park, was always set to result in a great creative output with his DJing.
After a blistering debut mix of house, breaks and techno at the legendary Hendre Hall, plenty more sets have followed at venues such as Sheffield's Burton Street Community Centre, The Foundry, and loads of other indoor and outdoor parties.
He's worked super hard on his DJ skills and really relishes the craft, so the mix he's put together for show 84 is all set to become a Decomposed classic in line with show favourites like Sophie Keltie, Haaayz and Freeborn Man.
So sign yourselves up and settle in..... this is Decomposed Radio Show number 84, with Cavey......
