Deconstruct To Curiocity

Linda is the Founder and President of Break Free Together, a not-for-profit organization that uses story exchange to break silence and shame stemming from purity culture. The organization was born out of Linda’s 15 years of research on gender and sexuality among girls raised in conservative evangelical churches documented in her award-winning book, Pure: Inside the Evangelical Movement that Shamed a Generation of Young Women and How I Broke Free.

In this episode we hear about Linda’s background and deconstruction period of her life. We talk on how purity culture has caused many people to settle in love and happiness. And the struggle of figuring out what a relationship with God is like without the constant guilt of sexual shame we grew up with.

Berry is a singer and songwriter based out of London, UK, but originally from Jacksonville Beach, Florida. She is Polish and Ethiopian but was importantly only raised by her single mom, grandma and uncle who were from Warsaw, Poland. Berry‘s perspective is unique but hardly solitary, it’s one most all mixed people can relate to. She advocates the importance of respecting those who look biracial and not asking or assuming they identify with the *culture* of the most physically presenting race and when someone tells you who they are, accept it.
