Deedlecast

September is all about space on Deedlecast this year.  DJDeedle starts off this month-long space odyssey by saluting the space race, that golden age of manned space exploration when the US and the USSR competed to outdo each other and be the first to land a human on the moon.  The adventure continued in the 1970s with further Apollo mission lunar landings, the rendezvous with the USSR's Soyuz, and ultimately, Skylab from 1973 to 1979.  

Here's to those brave days of manned space flight and exploration, humankind's destiny.

The rebellious sounds of alternative rock and funk join forces this week, combining their strengths into a complex groove.  Electric bass and drums move front and center, with the distinctive beat of funk rock, funkcore, and electrofunk moving nicely through the mix.  

The classic film, "The Wizard of Oz," premiered in New York on August 17, 71 years ago.  In celebration of the anniversary the Wizard himself has turned the machinery of Oz over to DJDeedle.  The people of Oz know how to party, and the sounds they like to move to have come a long way since 1939, no Lollipop Guild here.  This week, the man behind the curtain is DJDeedle.  

The collision of cultures is not always a destructive thing.  Sometimes the tension created by mingling multiple mindsets can be constructive, even artistic. This week, cultures collide, sparks fly.  The sounds of north and south, east and west, right and left bump up against each other.  Occasionally, friction is good. 

The hidden harmony is better than the obvious. This week, DJDeedle blends and twists both the hidden and the obvious, for a more transcendent effect.  

DJDeedle's been wearing those funny toe shoes you've seen, those Vibram Five Fingers shoes, for about a year now.  Now he has a closet full of the shoes, and he wears them to run, at the gym, and generally everywhere he can get away with it.  These simple shoes inspire.  Recently, the company responsible for these toe shoes has launched a microsite, youarethetechnology.com, which cleverly and provocatively demonstrates that all the technology you need to run and walk is you.  

The simple rhythmic pulse used in the site inspired DJDeedle to work the track into a little single, a mix of the sounds of youarethetechnology.com, and "She Said," the work of the British rapper, Plan B.  

So now, DJDeedle is not just inspired by Vibram Five Fingers physically, but musically as well.

Occasionally, delays, deferrals and glitchy technology can leave us all feeling a bit dis connected.  Disconnection isn’t such a bad thing, though.  Sometimes it can provide you that brief moment of focus, that instant of clarity, where suddenly you can find yourself lost in your own musical world.  Take a moment, and get off the grid. 

Analog goes digital, and vinyl finds new life in the 21st century.  This week, the record player once again rocks your world.
