John the Baptist Exalts Christ

From verses 22-36, John continues with the testimony of John the Baptist testifying about Jesus, before John was arrested. John, informs us of the ministry that Jesus had in Jerusalem and in Judea before he began to preach throughout Galilee.  Jesus’ ministry started becoming known by many.

We are started right off with a quote from John MacArthur regarding the passage we will be studying today! He says, “The story of Nicodemus reinforces John’s theme that Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God and that he came to offer salvation to men.” Further in He says, “Jesus also presented God’s plan of salvation to Nicodemus, showing that He was the messenger, whose redemptive work brings about the promised salvation to His people.”

After a brief stay in Capernaum, Jesus went to Jerusalem to attend the Passover feast. There he was going to begin his public ministry, and he was going to do it precisely in the house of His Father, in the temple.
