What does it mean to be a true Deadhead? On the second installment of Deep Cuts’ Deadtober, Jonathan and Richard are joined by longtime Deadhead, the one and only Billy Fried. We play the Terrapin Station suite, spin some more Day of the Dead boxed set picks, and discuss true Deadhead-dom.

Join us for the first installment of Deadtober as we celebrate the music and community of The Grateful Dead, as well as the lifelong friendship between two Deadheads: Richard and Van. We listen to deep cuts from the Day of The Dead boxed set, reminisce about Dead stories, and so much more.

With the addition of two real live English people, Deep Cuts celebrates some of the best music to ever come out of the UK. Mother and daughter Lyn and Laura join Jonathan and Richard in the studio. We remember the legacy of David Bowie, examine the multifaceted career of Paul Weller, then pick our favorite Genesis eras, before spinning pub rock favorites Elvis Costello and Graham Parker, Selector and the ska era, and much more. In addition to the music, we learn lots about our favorite island… pub culture, the best British foods, the royal family, and whatever “keep calm and carry on” means.

Today we celebrate the incredible guitar playing of Duane Allman. Taken from this world far too soon, Duane was a true prodigy. On this episode of Deep Cuts, Jonathan and Richard cover the highlights of Allman’s career, from the early days of session work and the Eric Clapton group Derek and the Dominos, to his well-beloved contributions to the Allman Brothers Band.
