The Fair Tax - A Conversation with Steve Hayes

The second part of our series on taxation, Steven L. Hayes is the Chairman & President of Americans for Fair Taxation (FairTax).

Steve graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas and the University of San Francisco Law School.  As a self-described “recovering” tax attorney he spent considerable time and resources investigating alternatives to the income tax.

Hayes has appeared on hundreds of radio and television shows, had numerous articles published in newspapers and magazines, and regularly speaks to groups of citizens around the country about why we must eliminate the income tax and the IRS and replace them with a national retail sales tax. Mr. Hayes has testified before the House Ways & Means Committee and former Congressman Jack Kemp’s Tax Reform Committee. He is widely sought after as a subject matter expert on tax reform panels and forums.

Recently Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Georgia) reintroduced the Fair Tax Act.

The Fair Tax - A Conversation with Congressman John Linder.

Did you know the Fair Tax has deep Georgia roots?

John Linder is an American politician who was a member of the United States House of Representatives (R-Georgia) from 1993 to 2011.

Linder is coauthor of The FairTax Book with radio talk show host Neal Boortz, which spent time atop the New York Times bestseller list. The book discusses H.R.25, also known as the Fair Tax Act, which Linder sponsored. 

Linder first introduced the legislation in July 1999 to the 106th United States Congress. 

While the proposed bill has yet to have a major effect on the tax system, the Fair Tax Act has the highest number of cosponsors among tax reform proposals (attracting 76 in the 110th United States Congress), gathering much stronger support than popular flat tax legislation.

To date a number of congressional committees have heard testimony on the FairTax; however, it has not been voted on in either Chamber.

The bill was co-sponsored by former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. Matching legislation was also introduced into the Senate by Georgia Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss.

Recently Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Georgia) reintroduced the Fair Tax Act.

Gavin is the former chaplain to Her Majesty The Queen (Queen Elizabeth II), and a former Anglican bishop.  Today he is an editor at the Catholic Herald, and hosts the Merely Catholic podcast.  He is also an author and columnist.

In 2017 he resigned from his chaplaincy to the Queen resigned from the Church of England in 2017. Eventually Dr. Ashenden was received into the Roman Catholic Church by Mark Davies at Shrewsbury Cathedral.

Matthew is a geochemist, and a professor at the University of Alabama.

Before UA Matthew was a post-doctoral research scientist in the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences and the Institute for Planets and Exoplanets at the University of California, Los Angeles.

He holds a PhD, Geochemistry, from UC Los Angeles; MS in Geochemistry, from UC Los Angeles and a BS, Biochemistry and Cellular Biology, from UC San Diego.

Matthew and Chad talk about DEI and climate alarmism in American academia.

DEI - which stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion - has roots in the 1960s civil rights movement and has grown to include gender, sexual orientation, religion, country of origin, and other identities. Matthew discusses his observations of DEI in academia. Since 2020 DEI has been aggressively pushed into American academia, business and culture.  DEI has also entered the environmental movement. While both men support equal rights and  social justice, they question the validity of DEI, and consider it a social science experiment. 

On the climate,  climate change alarmism is a description of the current style of climate scaremongering which stresses the catastrophic effects of global warming.

Dr. Wielicki argues that Earth is a dynamic planet, experiencing constant changes, and he believes that to better understand Earth's dynamic abilities we must better understand the climate, versus blaming global warming on western civilization.
 
His research interests include conditions of early Earth during the initiation of life; constraining the amount of continental lithosphere through time; understanding the flux and timing of asteroids impacting the Earth-Moon system and the association with major extinction events; and the evolution of the Himalaya and the Tibetan Plateau.
