If you do not create an avenue to express your emotions you risk bottlenecking your feelings.   

Your memories have the ability to awaken your consciousness, when you  reflect on specific moments in the past you can observe your mistakes  from an objective point of view and realise what you need to work on and  appreciate the things you did well. With this Knowledge your  Consciousness begins to awaken and you are able to shift your awareness  to the next level.
