A new study has found that deepfake political content is on the rise in Australia, and most voters aren't confident they can spot it.

Adobe’s Authenticity in Age of AI 2025 study found that 77% of Australians have noticed an increase in political deepfakes in the past three months, and 69% are concerned about their potential impact on elections. 

Lecturer in the School in Communications and Arts at the University of Queensland, Dr Anne Kruger, told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, "We've got such a mosaic of laws when it comes to a lack of truth in political advertising, and that is not for a lack of trying to get things done there."

"What I would like to propose and what I proposed yesterday was, why don't we have it?"

"Why don't we have codes of practice? Let's just trial a code of practice for the political parties if you are using AI in your ads, you must label them because there's just no law," Dr Kruger continued.
