Approaching the great month
The changing of the seasons is an occasion of reflection for a Believer and a lesson on the seasons of life as our bodies age and the world around us changes. The pious await the season of winter because the long nights are an opportunity for extra ‘Ibadah, the days easy to fast and for the opportunity to benefit the needy and indigent. Seemingly small gestures such as providing a blanket evokes heartfelt Du’as from the hearts of the poor, and is appreciated and rewarded by Allah Ta’ala, earning one the status of being the best in His eyes.
We are also approaching a high spiritual season. Sha’ban is a period of preparation, purification and ‘warming up’ so that we can begin the ‘race’ of Ramadan from the moment the moon is sighted, and continue striving to accumulate maximum benefit for the remaining 11 months of the year. Grab the opportunity of fasting in emulation of Nabi-Kareem Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam who fasted abundantly in Sha’ban, preferring that the annual ‘audit’ of his deeds be whilst in the state of fasting. Set our affairs right in preparation for 15 night of Sha’ban so that we secure our forgiveness, and ensure we are not from the 3 categories of those who will be deprived of forgiveness on this great night.
