An eventful 90 minutes saw Phoenix Rising see off the fruitful attempts from the leaders of the Western Conference.

Rising was slow out of the gates for the entirety of the first half. Chances were hard to come by against San Antonio. The ones that came through saw Rising fail to capitalize on their opportunities.

The halftime break was much needed as Danny Trejo scored in the 49th minute to somehow, someway put the visitors ahead. Yet, as they’ve done a league-leading two other times before, Rising conceded in the first 15 minutes of the second half as things went from bad to worse quickly. First, Carlos Harvey was issued his second yellow card of the match in the 56th minute after a phantom challenge. Three minutes later, Cristian Parano equalized by burying the ensuing penalty in the 59th minute.

Yet, even as the momentum was riding against them after San Antonio’s goal, Phoenix held firm. Riding the wave of a nervy final 30 minutes, Rising employed a bit of the “dark arts” as they withstood numerous San Antonio chances and nine corners.

In the end, a point is a point and it’s one the team should be proud of all things considered.
