Chances are you may have never heard of Defiant Wings (https://www.defiantwings.com/)? This is a small FPV plane manufacturer based on the East Coast of the United States run by a fellow hobbyist. There is a small group of people who are in-the-know about the company and their planes and freaking love them! As we approach the summer flying season there is spotty inventory and often insane prices for the usual suspect Chinese mass produced FPV planes. Thus, we’re all searching for alternatives. In the same ballpark of the mass produced planes are some very nice custom foam options.
This episode won’t be an infomercial for Defiant Wings. They only offer a few different models and one comes in various sizes. What you will be hearing from is fellow FPV hobbyist Shawn Shepard who has a fulltime job and uses the business to support his hobby, not pay the bills.
The one thing we’ve never really explored on WingTalk is who buys the custom foam planes, and why? When does someone break off from buying the next fad plane and build something a bit more elaborate? What’s the real difference? When are you ready for a custom foam plane?
