  • Saul Saves Jabesh-Gilead
This sermon examines 1 Samuel 11, highlighting the theme of God removing disgrace from His people through a Spirit-empowered deliverer. It contrasts the temporary, physical victory of Saul with the eternal, spiritual victory found in Christ, urging believers to reject compromise in the face of spiritual pressure. The exposition explores the significance of Gilgal as a place where God historically rolled away the reproach of Egypt, symbolizing the renewal of covenant allegiance. While acknowledging Saul's moment of grace and restraint, the message warns that human strengths can become pitfalls, pointing instead to Jesus as the true King who offers permanent salvation. The sermon concludes with a call for personal covenant renewal, encouraging believers to surrender their lives to God and find comfort in His enduring faithfulness rather than seeking temporary relief.

  • Surrounded
The sermon explores the theme of finding true refuge in God during times of persecution and despair, drawing a parallel between the Israelites' deliverance at the Red Sea and David's prayer from a cave. It argues that while humans often seek safety in familiar places or other people, these sources of comfort ultimately fail, leaving the believer in a state of spiritual imprisonment. The central message emphasizes that God intentionally leads His people through trials to reveal their inability to save themselves, thereby driving them to cry out for His mercy. By identifying God as their sole portion and inheritance, believers are called to shift their confidence from worldly circumstances to divine provision. This trust results in deliverance and the ability to praise God's name among the righteous, reflecting the ultimate work of Christ who rescues His people from bondage.

  • Christian's Burden Removed At the Sight of the Cross
Welcome to today's episode, where we trace one of the most profound and comforting truths in the Christian life: the vital distinction between saving faith and the full enjoyment of assurance. Drawing from John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, we explore Christian's journey from passing through the Wicket Gate to the climactic moment at the Cross where his heavy burden finally rolls away into the empty tomb. Guided by Westminster Larger Catechism Q. 81 and the classic pastoral insights of Thomas Ridgley, Thomas Brooks, Thomas Goodwin, John Owen, and Richard Sibbes, we confront modern misunderstandings—including the polemical debate between Dr. Joel Beeke and David Engelsma—to show why full assurance is not the immediate essence of faith, but a precious fruit grown over time. Join us as we consider Goodwill's tender counsel to be content to bear our burdens until the place of deliverance, offering deep encouragement to every "bruised reed" and "smoking flax" looking away from their own fragile feelings and fixing their eyes on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

  • Four Aspects of the Call of God
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

  • When God Lets Us Feel the Weight of What We Chose
Tonight we begin Judges 6. After everything God had done through Deborah… Barak… Jael… the storm… and the Kishon... after forty years of peace... Israel returned to evil. The tragedy of Judges… isn't that Israel had "too little evidence of God's faithfulness". They had generations of evidence. The tragedy is that… "remembered truth"… wasn't continually shaping their hearts. Peace… exposed… the same old heart! The crisis was gone… but so was the urgency. That's one of the recurring warnings of Judges. Hardship can drive us toward God… while comfort can quietly convince us… that we can manage life without Him. For us as Christians… this is deeply personal. We can seek God intensely in a hospital room… during a financial crisis… or when a family is falling apart. But then slowly loosen our grip… when life becomes normal again. "Be careful that you don't forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery." (Deuteronomy 6:12, HCSB) The danger isn't necessarily forgetting what God has done intellectually. It's living as though… what He has done… no longer matters.

  • Samuel: Born By Hannah's Faith
When talking about Samuel's faith, you would be remiss if you did not begin by looking at his mother Hannah's faith. Her fervent prayer during her barrenness illustrates the nature of biblical faith as a family legacy and a response to divine sovereignty. Her invocation of the Lord of Hosts reveals a deep understanding of spiritual warfare, where she appeals to God's power to overcome her afflictions and fulfill His promises. The teaching emphasizes that true faith involves humility, persistent prayer, and the recognition that God exalts those who seek His glory rather than human approval, ultimately pointing to the ultimate victory secured by Christ.

  • Judges Ep. 5 God's Patience with Gideon | Verse by Verse Bible Study
This sermon examines the narrative of Gideon in Judges 6, highlighting the cycle of Israel's idolatry and subsequent oppression by the Midianites. It explores Gideon's initial fear and lack of confidence, contrasting his human limitations with God's sovereign power and patient provision of signs. The exposition details the strategic reduction of Gideon's army to three hundred men to ensure that the victory is attributed to the Lord rather than human strength. The account culminates in the night battle where the enemy is defeated through divine intervention and confusion, demonstrating that God uses the weak to confound the strong. The sermon concludes with the aftermath of the battle, including Gideon's refusal of kingship and the warning against the idolatry that eventually ensnares Gideon's household.

  • Free At Last
This sermon explores the narrative of the Gerasene demoniac in Mark 5, using the story to illustrate the transformative power of Jesus over spiritual bondage and human sin. The central message emphasizes that while life can quickly shift from peace to chaos, Christ offers a new future that transcends the shame and limitations of the past. The preacher contrasts the community's rejection of Jesus due to economic loss with the healed man's desire to follow him, highlighting the danger of valuing temporal possessions over divine miracles. The tone is pastoral and convicting, urging listeners to settle their salvation, release their grip on past failures, and embrace the joy of a life led by Christ. Ultimately, the sermon calls for a confident testimony that spreads the marvel of God's work to others.
