Training 4 Influence

Delivering engaging, effective and memorable training with Alan Savill

Listen Later

In this episode Tammy will be chatting to Alan Savill about delivering engaging, effective and memorable training that will change lives. They discuss Alan’s own training course and his motivation for creating it, the importance of delivering engaging and appealing training sessions and their tips for making training more memorable for delegates.

Alan Savill is an independent trainer who has used his experience as a police officer, offender supervisor and suicide grief coordinator to deliver training for the past 20 years. As well as the momentous milestone of delivering more ‘Reducing Parental Conflict’ training than anyone else in the UK - having aided 2,500 professionals since 2019 - he has been recognised by the Early Intervention Foundation as a major factor in the success of the programme.

After experiencing loss in his own family, Alan founded Ian’s Chain, a charity through which he has achieved 60 successful interventions with suicidal people including those preparing or attempting to take their own lives. Not only has his charity helped over 80 grieving families to date, but it has raised numerous donations to causes dear to Ian’s heart, in his memory, including homelessness, DV and DA and paid for 60 cataract operations.

Alan is currently working on his own course surrounding the ‘Grief Path for Children and Young People After Suicide’ where he aims to get professionals to really understand the complexities or grief and give much needed support to young people.

In series 4 of the Training 4 Influence podcast, we’re talking all about training. Our aim is to explore the immeasurable impact of training within this sector, so we’ll be talking to trainers from a variety of backgrounds within the criminal justice, social care and charity sectors, about the training they deliver, their personal 'why' and their own best practice when it comes to delivering influential training.

Training 4 Influence is a creative solution, a methodology that can transform any training session, weaving values-led ‘golden threads’ that influence organisational outcomes throughout every training session.

Every training day is precious and, in sectors where case-loads are increasing, employees are burning out and every decision impacts lives, it is paramount that we upskill and positively influence outcomes at every opportunity.

We hope you enjoy listening to this discussion about why, having both had extensive careers delivering training courses to social care professionals, both Alan and Tammy believe that story-telling, adaptation and interactive training is the key to creating memorable, effective and engaging courses that leave delegates feeling inspired.
