Dell Technologies enhances PowerStore to address data growth, cyber resilience and operational efficiency

Listen Later

Dell Technologies has announced new innovations for its PowerStore platform designed to help organisations address some of the biggest IT challenges head-on. Today's businesses face unprecedented uncertainty while continuing to manage familiar challenges: exponential data growth, escalating cyber threats and zero-downtime expectations, all under pressure to do more with less.
The latest PowerStore release introduces enhancements across storage density, cybersecurity and operational simplicity, reinforcing the platform's role as a foundation for private cloud environments.
"Today's businesses face unprecedented uncertainty while trying to manage familiar challenges: exponential data growth and escalating cyber threats, while also maintaining zero downtime," said Brian Henderson, Global Storage Product Marketing Leader at Dell Technologies.
"PowerStore provides a future-ready platform that turns data into a strategic advantage. Today, we're announcing more ways PowerStore tackles IT challenges head-on with innovations in storage density, cybersecurity, and operational simplicity, giving you the tools to take control in an unpredictable world."
Higher-density QLC storage to maximise efficiency
Early QLC storage offerings required trade-offs between performance, cost and reliability. When PowerStore's QLC models were introduced, they addressed these challenges through an advanced software architecture that enables cost-efficient QLC media to perform as an enterprise-class solution. Customers benefit from NVMe performance, sub-millisecond latency and always-on data reduction, with up to 15% lower total cost of ownership compared to TLC models.
The latest update introduces new 30TB QLC drives, enabling organisations to store up to 2PBe of data in just 2U of rack space. This doubles capacity per rack unit while improving power efficiency by up to 23%. These gains are designed to help organisations manage growing storage requirements, rising energy costs and limited data centre space without sacrificing performance or reliability.
Expanded built-in cyber protection
With cybercrime and unplanned outages remaining persistent risks, PowerStore continues to expand its always-on cybersecurity capabilities. This no-cost software release adds new data protection and resiliency features, including synchronous replication over Fibre Channel for block workloads, asynchronous replication over Fibre Channel for file systems with five-minute recovery point objectives, and metro-sync replication for file workloads with automated failover.
Additional capabilities include multiparty authorisation, requiring approval from a second authorised administrator for critical storage actions. Combined with PowerProtect integration, ecosystem partnerships and AI-powered anomaly detection, these features support flexible cyber resilience strategies tailored to different operational needs.
Simplified file operations and visibility
PowerStore's unified architecture continues to evolve with new enhancements for file environments. Support has been added for advanced NFSv4.2 features, including server-side copy, sparse files and labelled NFS, designed to reduce network traffic, optimise capacity and support secure file sharing.
A new "Top Talkers" feature provides visibility into file resource consumption, allowing administrators to identify top consumers, monitor performance metrics such as IOPS and bandwidth, and apply QoS policies to address bottlenecks.
Looking ahead
PowerStore continues to play a central role in Dell Technologies' private cloud strategy, building on recent advancements such as Dell Private Cloud. The latest release is positioned as the first of several innovations planned for the year ahead.
