Dr Jodi Watt, narrating a new blog they wrote for the Dementia Researcher website.
Jodi puts a whole new light on the leaky pipline issue. They challenge traditional concepts by envisioning a dynamic framework where academia meets diversity and inclusion head-on. Delve into the intricacies of this metaphor as it evolves to reflect the experiences of not only cisgender women but also queer individuals. Jodi navigates the complexities of queer identity within academia, shedding light on the challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. With a robust blend of personal experience, comprehensive research, and a touch of humour, this blog invites you to rethink the leaky pipeline and join the journey towards an inclusive academic landscape.

Dr Jodi Watt is a Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Glasgow. Jodi's academic interests are in both healthy ageing and neurodegenerative diseases of older age, and they are currently working on drug repurposing for dementia. Previously they worked on understanding structural, metabolic and physiological brain changes with age, as measured using magnetic resonance imaging. As a queer and neurodiverse person, Jodi is also incredibly interested in improving diversity and inclusion practices both within and outside of the academic context.
