Having a service dog when you have dementia can be a significant challenge. I started out with meeting with some friends that had a service dog which supported him with his needs related to diabetes..

Sophie, his service dog could sense when he needed his meds and would bring them to them. They would have them prepackaged up and Sophie would go into the bathroom and bring them to him in a sack.

Step two was my research related to having a service dog with a neurological disease. Neurological meaning someone who has brain damage caused by some form of dementia.

Step three was I talked to my doctor about it and he agreed that having a service dog would help me particularly with my attention to the dog and also there was a lot of studies related to the benefits of having a service dog. There are also challenges with having a service dog to glory what happens if you pass away and your caregiver is stuck with taking care of the service dog.

After lots of discussions my caregiver (m decided that a service dog was a good move for me particularly sense I was having trouble walking and taking the dog for walks could be a great benefit to me.

This turned out to be very true, the VA was recommending a very heavy will scooter because at the same time I also had Parkinson's disease and they believe that I couldn't control the scooter because of my Parkinson's disease. Today I am back walking with to Patsy only with a cane and enjoying my life with my service dog. This podcast is an introduction. I hope it helps.

In Part 2 Christy and I go deeper into the question of what do you do when a loved one is denying having early onset dementia.  We discuss how starting from a trusting relationship is the foundation for a successful caregiving / receiving relationship.

Conflict arises when a spouse or a loved one in displaying symptoms of Dementia of Mild Cognitive Loss. What do you do? Digging in, arguing in or going behind the persons back will not work.

But how do you reset the relationship and get to the answers? This Article is based on my own experience and recommendations of how to properly execute a turn around and get back to a loving and caring relationship that together you can search for answers.

Discovering if you have early onset dementia is not a direct medical process. First, the differences in you are probably first only notices by you. Second, after that working with the medical field to determine if I had cognitive or other challenges, I found out that determining cognitive changes are not well understood at the GP or PCP level. Last, it takes a series of test to determine if you have dementia.
