    Stop Clocking My Uterus

Most black women face society pressure to have babies. When will you have a family, a baby, or add another baby? But they fail to understand the reason behind it all.

Some women go through a lot of complications when it comes to having a baby. It could be infertility, miscarriages, effects of birth controls, or even pregnancy complications like gestational diabetes. Although you might feel you are doing the right thing by asking them why they do not have kids, it is always good to keep your unsolicited advice to yourself and be sensitive.

In today’s episode, I share with you how you can do that. Black Men & Mental Health

One in ten black men are living with depression. Most men in the black community think they can figure it all out by themselves and do not know how to talk about their emotional experiences.

We teach boys not to be cry babies or share their emotions. However, as they grow, it leads to isolation, anger, and resentment, which affects their marriage or other relationships with people.

In today’s episode, I share the main reasons men do not seek out help, the challenges black men face, and how we can support black men in being vulnerable. This episode has all you need for your mental health, being a better version of yourself, and how we can break down the cycle for a better future generation.

    Key highlights

[02:32] Reasons men do not seek help

    [07:47] Challenges black men face

[10:34] Death rate by suicide for black men versus black women.

    [11:25] Vulnerability for black men

[13:19] How vulnerability in men affected my marriage

    [14:47] Supporting your men

[15:00] Getting the help you need and being the best version of yourself

    Notable Quotes

    • They do not feel safe sharing their part because it might be looked at as a weakness. It might be used against them.
    • It’s hard when you want to talk about everything going on with you, but you can’t find someone you can relate to that you see yourself in.
    • Do not suffer in silence because of cost since some plans will cover this if you have insurance.
    • It’s time for our black men to feel safe to be vulnerable and share their emotions.
    • It takes a strong person to admit that they need help.
    • God is enough, but He has given us resources to assist us. Use your resources.

    In-law Relationships

A lot of people when they hear the word in-laws, they automatically assume the parents. But the name stretches way further than that to any relative or family member of your spouse.

While many couples ignore having a discussion about building healthy in-law relationships when they get married, this issue has become one of the major problems in marriage if one side of the family is toxic. If not properly addressed, things could easily escalate and even lead to divorce. It’s always better to have this discussion early enough, set boundaries, and know how both sides can work together to support your marriage.

In today's episode, I share with you how you can just do that. From knowing the signs your in-laws are toxic, some positive traits to look out for, how you can deal with them, and build a better relationship. This episode has everything you need to build that healthy relationship and partnership, not just with your in-laws, but with your spouse as well!

    Key Highlights

[02:43] When is the right time to talk about in-law relationships?

[08:19] In-law challenges I faced with my husband in our young marriage

[15:05] Transitioning from a toxic family

[16:07] Signs your in-laws are toxic

[18:25] Some positive traits of in-laws

[26:51] Why you should never force traditions on your children.

[35:00] Talking to God about bad relationship with in-laws

[37:50] How to build a better relationship with your in-laws

[42:40] Ways to deal with in-laws

[54:03] Relying on therapy and mediator to work on your issues

    [55:57] Never ignore the problem

    Notable Quotes

    • When you get married, you’re now creating your own family.
    • If I’m perfectly honest and transparent with you, there were times at the beginning of our marriage when I thought I would walk away because of the issues that we dealt with, with our in-laws.
    • My dad never once said anything negative about my husband.
    • As a parent, you don’t have to agree with everything that they do, but you have to respect them.
    • We cannot force our traditions on our children.
    • Work with your spouse and not against your spouse.
    • Do not sacrifice your marriage to please your parents. Don’t sacrifice your marriage to please your siblings.
