They creep up on people insidiously and take them down instantly. Idols, that's what they are. Those little things that you exalt above the throne of God in your life. Those little things that can make you forgo God's will because of the promises they offer. Adam(the first man), forwent God's will and consequently his dominion rights, when he idolized his wife.
