According to Ginger, innovation's worst enemy is a process that works smoothly. We may think, "it works fine; why change it?". Innovation requires change, and change only occurs if we look outward into the world to draw inspiration. This, paired with a culture that embraces failure and setbacks, provides a nurturing space for innovation to grow.

On the fifth episode of Demystifying Innovation, we talk to Farzad Rayegani, Senior Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology.

As an engineer, Farzad sees failures as progress; every trial is part of the learning process and one step toward the final result. Science and technology is about building up and branching out within and between systems. On the fourth episode of Demystifying Innovation, we talk to Guillermo Acosta, Senior Dean, Faculty of Media and Creative Arts.

Guillermo was first introduced to the idea of a Usability Lab back when touch-screen technology was still new. He was excited at the idea of students having a space to test the adaptability of their designs. While project stakeholders had their own goals, Guillermo's vision always centred on the student experience. In the end, he took an unused slab of concrete and turn it into a space that transforms the way students and faculty think about design.

In our first episode of Demystifying Innovation's first season, Failing Forward, we talk to Frank Cappadocia; Humber's Dean of Continuous Professional Learning.

Frank is a proud Humber alumnus who was inspired into a career working with students through being Students Association Council president. He's worked at a number of higher education institutions like Ryerson, York and Lakehead University. When Frank was Director of Student Affairs at York University, a student brought up a flaw in his student orientation plan. This plan pushed him to innovate, resulting in higher student engagement than in the past.
