Who wants to be poor, sad, and meek? Why not be rich, happy, and crafty? That seems to make more sense! Jesus begs to differ. 

Caesar's idea of good news was diametrically opposite to the good news Jesus brought. Who was right?

If the Jesus way really is good news, how would it impact our neighbourhood?

The above picture is what a lot of people in our neighbourhood think about religion. It's just toxic! If you are that person your in good company, Jesus agrees with you! In Mathew chapter 23 Jesus lights up the religious leaders of his day because they managed to turn truth into a toxic mess. Do religious leaders and churches still manage to do that to this day? Yes, sadly, all the time! What can be done to make sure we don't turn Meta into a toxic mess?

The verse says this:

34 Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says. 35 If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is shameful for women to speak in church meetings.

Is it time to hire a Duck Tape Deacon to make sure the mouths of all the women are taped shut when they enter our worship space? What is going on here? For many this single verse is enough to send them scattering away from any possibility of exploring a life of faith in Jesus Christ. Can anything be said? Well, yes, a lot! 

The final message of the series takes a look at how followers of Jesus must welcome people into the good news through being present and available in neighbourhoods, through becoming intentional about the rhythms of everyday life, and finally by practicing hospitality.
