"For I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me." Paul said it in a ship the storm had beaten fourteen days — no sun, no stars, every man aboard sure he would drown. To believe God is not to hope; it is to take Him at His word and obey Him through the storm, all the way to the shore He promised.

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." Hearing and following are present tense — the mark of the sheep is not a profession once made but a voice still heard and a shepherd still followed. Stop hearing, stop following, and you have wandered from the fold; the Word of God is the door, and the man who will not enter by it is a thief and a robber.

"Fret not thyself because of evildoers." The wicked seem to prosper — the money drips off the modern church, the world denies the living God and climbs higher — but their end is to be cut down like the grass and consumed away into smoke. Trust in the LORD, commit thy way unto Him, and wait: it is the meek who inherit the earth.

In this lesson we take a look at the beginnings of the transition from territorial sectarianism to religious tolerance and modern denominationalism.

"Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian." Agrippa came within a word of believing and stopped there. Paul would to God the king were not almost, but altogether such as he was — for almost is not faith, and a man almost persuaded is still a man lost.

"My sheep hear my voice." The Word of God is that which saves, and your attendance upon it — or your departure from it — is the measure of your faith. The sheep are not known by a profession once made, but by the voice they still follow; every other voice, however good the music or the coffee, is a stranger come to steal the Word from you.
