Strickland attended college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a 4 Year Letterman for the Cornhuskers. Leading the team to 2 NCAA Appearances and 2 NIT's, winning the NIT in 1996 where he was named MVP. Having a great career at the University of Nebraska he was named Big 8 Freshman of the Year, 3 time All Defensive Team and Academic All-Big 8, Strickland also graduated with a degree in Sociology in 1996. Upon the completion college career, Strickland went undrafted in the 1996 NBA Draft, but caught on as a free agent with the Dallas Mavericks, where he spent four seasons and averaged a career-high 12.8 points per game in 1999–2000. He later played for the New York Knicks, Vancouver Grizzlies, Boston Celtics, also played with the Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks before retiring in 2005, averaging 7.5 points per game throughout his nine-year NBA career playing in multiple roles as a starter, key bench contributor and team support role Strickland was ready to do what was necessary for the success of the team no matter the role he played.
