  • Moving digital - Contact tracing: the tradeoff between health and privacy
As Canadian cities begin to open, provincial governments are moving ahead with using digital surveillance as a means to fight the pandemic. The Alberta government recently announced the launch of the cellphone contact-tracing app, ABTraceTogether. A similar app has been credited with helping contain the virus in Singapore. Both apps use Bluetooth to make users aware of whether they have, at some point, come in contact with someone who has contracted COVID-19. These apps have caused concerns about the personal information that they may collect, raising questions as where and by whom such information is stored, and for how long. Join our hosts Kelly Osaka and Karl Schober for their interview with Dentons Singapore partner, Gilbert Leong, on his experience rolling out and using the contact tracing app in Singapore. Our listeners will take away the lessons learned and what the road ahead looks like for Canada.
