It started like any other normal day. I wouldn’t believe it if anyone told me that I would own a pet this soon. I had been making plans for it but then I planned on getting a dog because my mom isn’t a cat person, but as the universe would have it, I found not one but two kittens at my doorstep.

My sister called me to come out on her way to get a snack. I rushed over because it sounded urgent and what do you know? There, lying helplessly in the middle of the road was a black kitten barely two weeks old. It’s eyes were still closed and it was cold to the touch. I quickly took it inside and put it on my body to warm it up.

Gradually, it stopped shaking and soon fell asleep. I peeked at the genitals and mistook it for a female so, I named it Mila which means Miracle. My mom already began to express her displeasure at the kitten and so I tried to find a home for it.

Alas, everyone was way too busy or not in need of a cat. I and my sister pleaded with mom and she finally agreed to let us keep it. However, life had other plans.

The next day which is today, our neighbors called our attention to another kitten of same size and age. Before today, I had already rushed to the Vet with my concerns for the black kitten and all was well with it. I just needed to have it dewormed and then bring it in when it was four months for the vaccine.

So, last night, I placed an order to a Pet store for KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer) and nursing kit. Unfortunately, there was no KMR and the Goats’ Milk Powder was recommended instead. So, I confirmed order and thank you so much @tengolotodo for showing up for these little ones. I couldn’t have been able to buy the supplies without his help.

The order arrived by 10:29am this morning. Before that, a lot had already happened. Since I now had two kittens, it was going to be difficult raising both. I needed to find a home for one of them. I had my fair share of waking jerks to tend to Mila through the night. I knew I couldn’t handle two. But I was more or less resigned to the assignment of the need be. The fact is, I won’t send them out to the road again.

But God helping me, I thought of someone I haven’t in a long time. Gustavo. An animal lover just like me and he has this affinity with plants. His place is covered with beautiful plants he raised himself. I reached out to him and guess what? He wanted a kitten. He’d been looking to adopt and I had his spec. A black one. We arranged to meet and I put him through what I already knew about the kitten care while he patiently listened.

I felt so relieved because I don’t think there’s anyone like Gus for Mila. His sister-in-law is a Vet and we are to meet her regarding the kittens and their health. Gus is passionate when it comes to cats and plants. I know he would do a good job raising Mila.

Now, we kept this one and called it Asher. Not Ashley. Yes, odd names but it’s given. For now, we take care of deworming and other procedures to ensure its health. Then plans to feed it dry cat food. All in good time.

I’ll take suggestions if you guys have any. My major concern is how she easily pees but hasn’t poop. I don’t know if I’m feeding her adequately. The internet says to feed every two - three hours and stimulate them to pass out waste the same hours. She sleeps a lot. For hours on end and while internet says it’s normal, I still check if she’s breathing every once a while.

Today like every other day, I surrender to the now. I accept and forgive myself for past mistakes. I learn to live and not just exist. I am intentional with myself and my relationships. I am full of love, guided by wisdom with understanding.

Growth is a process, it involves smooth roads, steep curves, narrow corners and potholes. It’s a never ending journey. There is no such thing as static. Most times, it feels like we are in the same place for a long period but there is a transition that happens while we find ourselves there.

Reflection makes it apparent to me how time has been and still remains my greatest asset. Sometimes, there is a drastic change that involves turning tables and sometimes, it’s a silent noise. It just happens within. Perspectives change, reasoning and behavior changes, even thoughts experience a level up.

I don’t know what to call this most of the time. It always feels like I’m static and then, I notice tinges of color at the edges of my gray canvas. It’s a process. Even the waiting, doubting, crying are all processes.

I wrote the lyrics to this song months ago while listening. It just kept forming as words in my head but didn't really make sense until I sat down in my room one afternoon and let the images speak.

The truth is, the lyrics here encapsulates all I was feeling at the time. It was an outburst of sorts. I have a very active imagination which can enter overdrive when allowed to roam freely. It happened that day and just like everything else, taking those feelings and penning them as words made me feel better.

Dreemport has always held challenges since its inception. This month of October, in the year 2023 is a special month. This challenge required us to do something different. And guess what? I had all plans to participate despite the tight schedule I have.

I have always been fascinated by the concept of marriage. Scared too but mostly fascinated. Living with someone for the rest of your life? Isn't that something?

This Challenge was also a way for me to get a look into the lives of these people. For this challenge, I was privileged to get Mr. and Mrs. Adelusi who have been married for 27 years to talk to us.

Good evening Afritunes. Another great week of songs. Hehe.

This week I’ll be presenting a cover of a song @justfavour sent to me. The way the lady sang it was so cool and her voice was something else. So I decided to do it even if it took me a while. Lol. I was lazy.

This song is basically an appreciation song to God for his faithfulness and goodness in our lives. For the times he’s been there when we see or we don’t. Words are never enough.

I saw different versions of this song and decided to make my own version instead. So, I went on YouTube, looked for a suitable instrumental (copyright free) and used it. That is what you hear.

I spent time on this one too because smoothing the notes and timing the intro was crucial. It was also quite tasking to find a suitable instrumental for this. As easy as the song looks, implementing your choice of sound on it takes a bit more than just selection.

After many browse through, I settled on this one. Who else is getting Anime/Disney vibes from the instrumental? Hahaha.

Anyway, I got to learn a new thing. Many new things actually. And it was fun doing something like that. It was tasking but the end was worth it. And I look forward to many more like this. Unlike my previous presentations where I sing covers, this is written - from beginning to end - by yours truly.

The title stems from a strong desire to change my story and become somebody. The lyrics of this song came when I was preparing for this phase of my life. I had no idea what I was going to meet in the future but one thing was certain - I will WIN.

This is a tribute to the one person who has been there with no complains. I can be a very difficult person and she has dealt with it (at the same time disciplining me in a loving way). She's my Mother.

Some would say, "well she is your mom. That's why it's easy for her". I don't believe so. Just because they are your parents doesn't mean they should tolerate nonsense. If you gre up in a home with a strict father, you will understand what I mean. Is just one look he will give you ehn...

The lyrics are quite clear. I likened myself to a designer bag because when I was little, they called me Mommy's Handbag. I went everywhere with her. I was the gum to her hair.

We've been called poor and ridiculed over many things. I am not proud to say that we have had to beg which made me prey to very...perverted and twisted human beings. But God has been faithful and I can't remember the last time I went to ask anyone (who isn't my friend/Mom) anything.

Looking back on where I am coming from, I can say with my full chest that it only gets better from here.

I plan to take this song to a studio and work on it more professionally. This is just a glimpse of one of my songs. Haha. I fit release album like this o! But that won't be a surprise. I love music and only recently started coming out with it.

Hello, AfriTunes. It’s week 76 and another day of being Alive. For this week, I will be presenting the cover of the song Osuba by CHIDINMA. Forgive my apparel, I’m a bit under the weather.

This song, I knew when I was going to present it that I wouldn’t change a thing. I have heard some of her songs and heard many people talk about her Gospel hits but this song, it’s everything and more.

I wrote the lyrics in English for my audience who don’t understand Yoruba so you can all flow along with me. I will say this. Anyone who knows (really knows) God, knows that He is as fearful as He is loving and kind.

There is this power that comes with knowing who you really belong to and how safe you are from the plagues of this world. One thing I have come to understand is God is dedicated to those who are dedicated to him and he loves like no other.

While I was singing this song (P.S I forgot the lyrics at some point but too tired to record another), I felt goosebumps and not from the cold. Do you know what it means to have someone you can always run to?

When you’re tired, when the world seems too much, when you can’t go on, when you wake up… I don’t know for others but that communication between God and I is something that’ll never go away.

You may be wondering (to some of my audience) why I used a Lion for the thumbnail. See, we all know that He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. I haven’t fully grasped the revelation of that yet but hope to soon. Meanwhile, you can share in the comments your knowledge on who he is to you based on that identity.

I know that we are able to pick ourselves up. We are able to get tough but there are days that despite having a friend or a lover or your parents, you just want to get lost in space. And God is my space. I can get lost and come back stronger. Always stronger.

Someone once found out how awful my life could be and asked me with an incredulous look on her face, “how are you always so chirpy and bright when you have all these problems?” I just laughed because then I didn’t know the answer.

But when I recalled how many times I have broken down and called on His mercy (that is my name) and how times out of number He has shown up for me without fail (it is no coincidence) I knew. I can get low, yes, but in the midst of all the darkness, He is always there and no matter how I try to run, I feel Him.

There is a joy that comes with knowing. When you know that you’re not going under despite the waves because Someone bigger and greater has you in the palm of His hand. This is why I have never lost the hope that I can be someone. Because my hope is firm in Him.

Hello Afritunes. It's another week of creativity and I want to use this opportunity to say thankfor the constant encouragement and work put in here. I'm always impressed.

For this week, Who's your guy? by Spyro was my pick because incase you didn't know, today is my buddy's @tengolotodo birthday.

I wrote the lyrics with him in mind. If I could give him the world, I would. He has been there since day one of my meeting him. You don't come by someone like him everyday and this is just a token of my gratitude for his constant support and mentorship. If you haven't spoken with Tengo, you have no idea what the sun sounds like. I always ask him how he's never sad.

It is so sad that in this world we live in, many people do something for you with an expectation and this is the reason why when you find someone who accepts all of you (even the bratty, immature side), hold on.

He's like a Manny😂. Tender yet firm, kind but strict and he gives really good pokes and KUTAs when I begin to slack. When I have kids, they will hear all about their grandpa😂.

Good Morning Afritunes. I decided to do an original cover of Davido's (Nigerian Global Artist) Over Dem; from the album Timeless.

The lyrics basically tells of how victory comes and how triumphant the artist is over all trials. Many may agree especially given the time in which the album made appearance. He lost his son. I decided to take this song and pour my frustration from the other day into it, at the same time affirming that it'll take more than just a few choice words to bring me down.

We all have had various experiences with people. People who come to you with a smile but plot evil behind you. In my lyrics, I try to dutifully convey my feelings:

This line simply means, Their words or their mocks can't do anything because I already have a thick skin. I may look like a diva but I am relentless and can be ruthless when going after what I want. On the weekends, I let out my other side (the shameless tomboy) because the work I do, isn't diva friendly. I become the opposite of a woman when I need to. The part of me that most will never see is my feminine side. Why? It is my most vulnerable side. I only let it out to those I trust (with my life). It's Act like a Woman, Think like a Man all over again.

This line is me saying that everyone has problems. What I do is do what brings me joy and forget about what the world is saying. It can be translated as Take a bath, make coffee and read a book.

I learned that all I need is within me. Ever since I fully understood that I am in full control of how my life turns out, it was movement at full speed. The Mind is a powerful asset! Winch dey learn work for my side.

To me, the only thing between my dreams and I is myself. The day I begin to blame others for my failures is the day I become subject to people's opinion of me. Just incase you are wondering, I and Rema are namesakes. Lol.

I be Deraa for life. If you read to this point, you're about to find out something you probably don't know. I improvised, inserting my name because my birth was an unusual one. My Mom and Dad (when they were still together) took my naming so serious, they embarked on a fast. They both got the same name for me; Divine Mercy. I came out of my Mom's womb smiling (she said she never even felt pain. She only knew she was in labour when the water broke).

However, The name Deraa is the shortened name for Chideraa (an Igbo name) which means What God has written, he has written. Yep! I am stamped alright!

I be Deraa for life simply means I can't be rid of that easily. They may take on Goliath's form but I have a fearless Tiger within me and she's not dormant! I was born to win and Win I shall!
