  • 3 - Virginity before marriage?

Content warning: This episode may include strong language, discussions of mental health, trauma, relationships, and other sensitive or mature topics. Listener discretion is advised.

Today I explore the belief that virginity before marriage guarantees relational and sexual satisfaction in marriage. I challenge the promises of purity culture and emphasize the importance of accurate knowledge, communication and consent in building a fulfilling sex life.

    What will you learn?

    • Virginity before marriage does not guarantee compatibility or pleasure
    • Purity culture and abstinence-only education have real consequences
    • A better alternative is to use the B.O.N.D. framework.

Content Warning: This episode discusses adult sexual topics, sexual history, purity culture, religious shame, misogyny, coercion, abusive relationships, trauma, jealousy, and relationship anxiety. Listener discretion is advised.

Today, we put "Body Count" into the Hot Seat. We'll explores the cultural, scientific and emotional aspects of the 'body count' belief, debunking myths and emphasizing the importance of deep conversation and compatibility in relationships.

    Takeaways

    • Body count beliefs are deeply rooted in culture and gender bias.
    • Oxytocin depletion and partner count do not determine bonding capacity.

  • 1 - Never be vulnerable with a woman

    Content Warning:

    • Adult themes related to sex, intimacy, and dating
    • Discussion of gender stereotypes from the manosphere and hypergamy theories
    • Discussion of emotional vulnerability, rejection, betrayal and relationship conflict
    • References to emotional manipulation, control, anger and loneliness
    • Discussion of potentially distressing experiences involving partners mocking or weaponizing someone’s vulnerability

Should men ever be vulnerable with women? Does opening up make you look weak, lose respect or give someone ammunition to use against you later?

In this episode of Desire Hot Seat, I put the advice “never be vulnerable” to the test. We look at where this idea comes from, why it feels convincing to men who have been hurt before and whether emotional shutdown actually protects relationships or slowly hollows them out.

We’ll talk about hypergamy, masculinity, emotional suppression, trust and the difference between being vulnerable with a partner versus making a partner responsible for your emotions.

I’ll also introduce a more practical alternative to recognize, regulate, then relate, along with the SHARE check-in for opening up without dumping everything onto your partner.

  • Desire Hot Seat Trailer

    https://www.youtube.com/@desirehotseat

Desire Hot Seat is a podcast about popular relationship and intimacy advice. Each episode takes one claim (from the manosphere, purity culture, therapy-speak, or other corners of the internet) and explores where it came from, why it feels convincing, what the evidence actually says and how it affects the people who follow it.

Hosted by SHA-certified sex and relationship coach, Alex, the goal isn’t to ridicule people, it’s to approach complicated ideas about love, desire and relationships with curiosity, compassion and a willingness to question what we think we know.
