Destination Cyprus

It's a rare thing to connect with someone who oozes passion, purpose and optimism, while also dealing with such a painfully prevalent segment of innovation. Dr. Marianna Prokopi-Demetriades is an inspirational and empowering scientist with a holistic eye on oncology and biotech progress. Preventing cancer is as high on her agenda as enhancing the quality of life for those living with the disease. She has put her personal mission, her impressive academic experience, her accolades, influence and entrepreneurial skills to the kind of good use that evokes nothing but gratitude and admiration. A fascinating story and a poignant message of hope.

The thriving hub of Limassol already boasts a collection of impressive 5-star hotels, an award-winning superyacht marina and an integrated casino resort. Adding an 18-hole championship golf course to the mix seems like a natural progression. But Limassol Greens has a vision that transcends the sport itself and public perception. In our chat with the upcoming destination's Golf General Manager, golf professional and specialist Andrew Darker delves into a successful career that changed the landscape in Cyprus over the past two decades; we talk lifestyle, the journey to our island and bringing golf to the city.

Many of us left Cyprus and stayed away for decades to pursue a career in the arts. She has made history with the first Cypriot production on Netflix. A film shot entirely in Cyprus, with a lead actor and major streaming collaboration that are putting us in the spotlight. We thought we met in Monaco in 2017. It was actually 2012 — the length of a bible, indeed! I never lost touch with this man since. He is profound, in every way. Ranked in the top four of the world's leading high net worth advisers, John is known for far more than his legal mind and his negotiating skills. A brand in his own right, he is an industry ambassador, a consulting superyacht advisor, a podcaster, a writer and a PhD researcher. He is also a fellow Cypriot; his deep-rooted, growing love for our island 'almost' rendered me speechless.

Despite what he says, crunching data doesn't make our next guest any less of a real estate guru. His grasp of the sector, his hands-on experience in setting up large-scale real estate platforms and in repositioning real estate assets, equip him to consult on any related topic with the expertise of someone who has indeed been at it for decades! In this podcast episode, we cast a spotlight on Pavlos Loizou and his compelling career, we talk about staying relevant, the advent of artificial intelligence (and the tech in PropTech) and the need for Cyprus to continue adapting to change.

Hard to imagine, but fifteen years ago Instagram didn’t exist. In fact, the first hashtag was invented in 2007. We used to buy newspapers and magazines, we used to read articles and press releases, we used to watch long-form interviews on terrestrial channels. We used to buy 'The Cyprus Weekly' on a Friday too – remember those days? Our next guest appeared on our radar fifteen years ago, as the Limassol correspondent for our top-selling national English-language newspaper; a journalist with far more to say than could fit into any column. She has since perfected the art of communication through her passion for the written word. And despite her years away from Cyprus, Andrianne Philippou has left her mark on the community and is determined to make her way back home. In our chat, we delve into her journey to the island and the reasons pulling her back.
