Welcome to another episode of Develomentor. Today's guest is a serial entrepreneur and international business development guru Mark Heynen.
Mark Heynen (@markheynen) serves as PayJoy’s Chief (Business Development) Officer. Prior to PayJoy, Mark had an extensive career starting companies in the US and abroad, and striking complex deals in the mobile ecosystem. In 1999, Mark joined the founding team of LibertySurf, France’s first free ISP, and launched operations in the UK and Germany. Shortly thereafter in 2000, Mark co-founded retail analytics company Electrobug Technologies in London, which he eventually sold in 2006.
He moved back to the US that year to join Google’s early BD team, where he worked on mapping the developing world and launching Android. He was recruited to Facebook in 2010 to launch the company’s emerging market mobile strategy, including a number of complex carrier deals and the largest acquisition Facebook made at the time (Snaptu). Since leaving in 2012, Mark founded Photo Lab (sold to Dropbox) and led business development and operations for commercial drone startup Skycatch.

JP Sherman (@jpsherman) is the manager for Search & Findability (SEO) for Red Hat. This means he makes content and information more readily findable to users in whatever channel they use to look for it. JP's been in the search industry for more than 15 years and has helped massive companies like Paramount Studios to quirky startups like a search engine for video games improve how customers find them and the content they have.
Growing up in Sacramento, California, JP has had nearly every job there is... barista, massage therapist, autopsy assistant, US Army Special Operations (Airborne), visual artist & illustrator, archaeological dig team leader, video game dialogue writer & SEO. He is probably the last person in the world to take career development advice from.

Ross Gilbertson is a long-time IT manager. He worked his way up from the director level to Chief Information Officer and Senior VP of technology. Along the way, he’s worked across a variety of industries, ranging from banking to eCommerce to coffee and publishing!
When starting out, Ross recalls "a lot of the jobs were more along the programming bent", but Ross was more of a business guy with an interest in technology. He attributes curiosity as a major part of his successful career. Curiosity not only for learning new skills, but also a curiosity for understanding people.

Jake Mannix is currently the Data Architect of Search Relevance at Salesforce. In other words, he's an AI Engineer. Jake lives in the intersection of search, recommender-systems, and applied machine learning, with an eye for horizontal scalability and distributed systems. Prior to his current position, Jake was the Lead Data Engineer in the Office of the CTO at Lucidworks.
In college, Jake studied algebraic topology and particle cosmology. He's ABD ("all but dissertation") from the University of Washington before transitioning into technology.
