Lori-Ann started her journey as an athlete at a young age. She talks about how her passion for cycling began and how she pursued it to become an Olympic gold medalist. As a Business Results & Mindset Coach, Lori-Ann has worked with many young athletes and aspiring leaders. She shares some valuable lessons she has learned from her experiences. One of the key lessons she emphasizes is the importance of perseverance and hard work. She also stresses the need to be open to feedback and learning from mistakes.

Another lesson Lori-Ann shares is the importance of setting achievable goals and creating a plan to reach them. She also highlights the need for mentorship and support systems to help individuals navigate their journey towards success.

Reforming Youth Sports Culture: Stop Poor Parent Behavior

Parents parent, coaches coach, officials officiate, and spectators spectate. This is what has been lost in youth sports. My reflection on this topic comes from 38 years of experience, so I “get it”.

From the lack of respect shown to officials and coaches, to blatant disrespect and undermining coaches relationship with players, parents are increasingly taking the fun out of youth "sports".

This is a sensitive topic for some, but when you include that the kids of these parents are being taught how to deal with not getting their way.

In this episode, I speak with my friend and fellow Village of Inspiration member, Dr. Miriam Mandel.

Dr. Mandel gets deep and hits a home-run on topics that need more conversation, as they will greatly improve the outlook of our kids.

Understanding the adolescent brain; how kids interpret some verbal communications and facial expressions. This was an eye opener for me!

She also talks about teen vaping and its impact on the brain, something that kids and parents need to be more knowledgeable about.

Why adolescents need ample sleep, and the affects in can have on their daily routines.

She left clinical pediatrics and has been researching and teaching the connections between mind and body medicine for over 13 years. Her passion is teaching individuals, especially teens and their families, to look for the answers they are seeking on the INSIDE, where all the answers lie.

Dr. Mandel currently sees individual clients but most of her time is working with K-12 staff (and parents) in public and private schools helping them learn to self-regulate and self soothe, using their physiology and mindset. She supports them in learning these skills for themselves and the natural progression of teaching it to their students by being the example. It’s a win-win.
