Over the past few weeks Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and dozens of other game companies have come out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. However, one of the largest gaming companies in the space has remained silent. Valve is notorious for having a laissez-faire attitude when it comes to most things but staying silent makes them complicit to current political injustices and systemic racism. If that wasn’t enough, the same laid back approach to community management has allowed multiple hate groups to exist and grow on Steam. Maybe it’s only a matter of time before Valve comes out in support of Black Lives Matter with a statement or some type of donation, but until they do, they’re implying that they are willing to put profits before the well being of human lives.
