DHA Podcast | Deep House | Techno .

Jay Smalls was just 16 when he started DJ-ing in Northern England. At the time you were more likely to find him spinning tunes along the lines of hip-hop, rare groove, funk and new jack, rather than house and techno. But over time and as electronic music evolved, Jay found himself edging towards the house and techno we have all come to love.

Now based in Sydney, Jay has made a name for himself in the local scene as one of the talents. Jay has played at some of the seminal parties in Sydney, such as SASH, Subsonic Music (festival + events), threesixty, Circoloco and Spice, and has a wealth of experience behind the decks.

Please have a listen to Jay’s podcast, and let us know what you think in the comments on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/deephouseau/097-jay-smalls

We're extremely excited to have Phil Smart join us on the podcast, for episode #096.

Phil has been DJ-ing in and around Sydney (and around the world!) for more than 20 years. Needless to say, a standard bio write up won't go anywhere near capturing Phil's experience and talent.

We would like to call out, however, some of Phil's international DJ experience. He has played at the following notable locations around the world: PS1 (NY), Funky Teknotribe, Spundaes, Basics, Sunset and Green Gorilla (SF), Shambhala (BC), Burning Man (NV), Bedrock and Club UK (London), and E-Werk (Berlin).

At Deep House Australia we are big fans of Phil's, and not only is he a talented DJ and selector, but he is well-respected here in the local scene. This is why we have invited Phil to headline our inaugural club night this coming Saturday, 31st May 2014 (http://bit.ly/DHA-31stMay).

Recently Phil has teamed up with another DHA-favourite, Tomek, to form @coloursoundnewcastle, a new music collective bringing an underground sound to Newcastle. Each month, they deliver a new headliner to the CBD Hotel in Newcastle which has of course been an excellent success...

Arch44 Music is a UK-based record label, driving house to deep house and tech house to techno sounds from artists all around the world. Their artist roster includes Aussies '3CatsDeep', 'Shepz' & 'Luka Sambe', German duo 'Rockwell & Landers', the UK's 'Deepmilo' and Italian 'Francois Le Roy'. The label consists of business partners Ross Kemp and Jeff Parker (pictured). Expect big things from Arch44 Music in 2014 - we hope you enjoy their promo mix, consisting of several tracks from the label, including a couple of hot-off-the-press, exclusive first plays.

When we asked Arch44 Music about their mix for the DHA Podcast, this is what they had to say:

"We had a lot of fun putting this together, we made sure each track was carefully selected, avoiding the 'de jour' approach of going as up-front as possible, and instead doing a bit of crate digging to compile a 1 hour mix that is 'all killer and no filler'. We hope you enjoy!"

DHA welcomes our newest podcast resident, Hamish Radford. Hamish delivers 'Warm Grooves' for his official debut as resident.

Previously, Hamish won our .darkroom DJ competition and has joined us as a guest on the DHA Weekly radio show. Hamish is an extremely talented, and young, vinyl only DJ, who when behind the decks has experience beyond his years. At only 21 years old, Hamish has a wealth of experience in the local scene in Sydney. He is also a producer and sound engineer to boot...

As a vinyl only DJ, his record collection is vast and varying throughout many different styles and sub-genres, although we are most accustomed to hearing him play house and techno.

We hope you enjoy these 'Warm Grooves'.

Our guest for Episode #093 of the DHA Podcast is Taylor Ferney, from Sydney crew Locus Cadre. Taylor and Locus Cadre have been cooking up a storm in Sydney, ever since they started throwing free pop-up beach parties, which, of course, were a great success. Natural progression led them to take things to warehouse parties and club gigs, with a side of radio. The "LC" have their own show on Bondi Beach Radio, Friday's fortnightly from 12 midday - 2pm.

This mix from Taylor starts off with some funky housey tunes, blending into a deeper array of house. Have a listen...
