Indian shooter Avani Lekhara on Monday scripted history by becoming the first-ever female athlete from the country to win the gold medal at the Paralympic Games. The 19-year-old shooter fired her way to the podium in the women’s 10m air rifle event. She signed off from the colossal event with a world record-equalling score of 249.6, which is now a Paralympics record.

The United Nations Security Council, under the current Presidency of India, on Monday, August 30, 2021, adopted a resolution on the situation in Afghanistan, demanding that the war-torn country not be used to threaten or attack any nation or shelter terrorists.

On Thursday, August 26, bomb blasts inside Hamid Karzai international airport in Afghan’s capital Kabul killed more than 100 people, including 13 US troops, disrupting the ongoing Afghan evacuation of tens of thousands of stranded civilians.

Najia was at home with her three young sons and daughter in a small village in northern Afghanistan when Taliban fighters knocked on their door. Najia's daughter Manizha, 25, knew they were coming -- her mother had told her they'd done the same thing the previous three days, demanding that she cook food for up to 15 fighters. If the United States and its allies decide to leave Afghanistan, they would only be the latest in a long series of nations to do so.

Despite India's 50% increase in GDP since 2013, more than one third of the world's malnourished children live in India. Among these, half of the children under three years old are underweight.

One of the major causes for malnutrition in India is economic inequality. Due to the low social status of the majority of the population, their diet often lacks in both quality and quantity. Women who suffer from malnutrition are less likely to have healthy babies. Nutrition deficiencies inflict long-term damage to both individuals and society. Compared with their better-fed peers, nutrition-deficient individuals are more likely to have infectious diseases such as pneumonia and tuberculosis, which lead to a higher mortality rate. Besides, nutrition-deficient individuals are less productive at work.

Ashwini Upadhyay, a Supreme Court advocate and BJP member, has been in the news for last several days due to a rally organized by him on 8 August. The rally aimed at evoking central government to abrogate British-era penal codes and implement UCC. After a peaceful rally, the crowd of more than 5,000 people were dispersed after 12:30 PM as it was supposed to rain. Pakistani Hindus have for more than seven decades faced pogrom and political killings. But we have barely seen any human rights organizations taking cognizance of the religious persecutions. It seems that Hindus don't have any human rights. The deafening silence from international organizations is disturbing and painful and reflect upon their hypocrisy and double standards. The entire world was apparently concerned when Rohingya Muslims were persecuted in Myanmar but at the same time no one thought of voicing their opinion on the religious persecution of Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
