Why not の３つの意味
Why not の意味１：なぜ〜ではないの？
１つ目は、文字通り「なぜ〜ではないの？」という意味です。
相手が「何かをしたくない」「何かが嫌い」など not を使用した否定文に対して、「なぜしたくないの？」」「なぜ嫌いなの？」と訊く時、Why not を使う事が一般的です。
例文
A: I don’t like Sushi.
B: Why not? (Why don’t you like Sushi?)
この例文の様に、会話中は、「寿司が嫌い」と言っている相手に「なぜあなたは寿司が嫌いなのですか？」と長々と聞かず、「なぜ？」と短く聞くのが自然ですよね。
Why not の意味２：もちろん、ぜひ！
２つ目の意味は、提案や誘い、依頼に対して賛成、賛同したり、快く引き受ける時に使う why not です。
「反対する／断る理由はない」というニュアンスで、ただ単に yes と返事するよりも、積極的な印象があります。
例文
A: Do you want to help me cook dinner?
B: Why not? What do you want me to do?
A: 晩ご飯作るの手伝ってくれる？
B: いいよ。何すればいい？
A: Do you want to go out for dinner tonight?
B: Why not? I know a great restaurant around the corner.
A: 今晩外食行きたい？
B: もちろん。近くにいいレストラン知ってるよ。
Why not の意味 ３：〜してはどうですか？
３つ目は、何かを提案したり、薦めたりする時に使う Why not です。この Why not は、意味１＆２とは違い、文章を作らなければならない使い方のです。
例文
A: I want to do something special for my mother’s birthday.
B: Why not take her to her favorite restaurant?
A: ママの誕生日に何か特別な事をしたいんだ。
B: ママの好きなレストランに連れて行ったら？

３つ目に紹介した why not〜 は、Why don’t you~ と大体は同じ意味ですが、微妙に違うニュアンスがあります。Why not ~ と why don’t you~ 両方の使い方を確認してください。
