With over 400,000 type 1 diabetics living with the disease in the UK, the likelyhood  paramedics and emergency responders will encounter a patient in crisis is quite high. 

Diabetic ketoacidosis is undoubtably a problem that you will have encountered in your practice and effective prehospital recognition and management is key to starting a potentially life saving pathway of care.
