Hi there.

This is Gary with a Senior Geek with a brand new recording of an audio Diary of a Senior Geek.

I wanted to tell you a little story that's just happened to me yesterday.

I'm volunteering for a political candidate.

His name is Joe Kerr.

He's running for the House of Representatives in my district.

and so they gave me an app that I can use to find houses with at least one person in them that's registered as a Democrat and I stopped by those houses and see if I can find out you know if they're planning on voting for for Joe encourage them to vote for Joe give them a little literature and

It's a nice way to get some exercise and kind of meet my neighbors.

The routes they give me are all very close to where I live.

So it's kind of a cool thing to do.

And most of the people I've talked to have just been wonderful.

I've even had some people answer the door and while someone in their house is registered as a Democrat, they personally are registered as a Republican or an Independent.

and they've all been very nice to me if the person I wanted to talk to wasn't home they'd take my literature and promise to give it to them it's it's just been a very nice experience until the next to the last house I was going to yesterday I had two more houses left on the route I was walking yesterday

and I answered the door and I said hi I'm Gary Fisher are you so-and-so and he kind of nodded and so I went into my spiel and he smiled and and and he started shaking his head and I said no and he said don't bring any of that Democratic stuff around here they're all liars

and I'm not really exaggerating too much with the tone of voice and I said oh well excuse me are you and I asked for the name again and he wouldn't respond and I thought well maybe I got the wrong house then I said so is this and read out the address this is where you go out front and look

I said fine I said sorry thank you for your time and I started to walk out and he walks out behind me and he says why would you want to be how did he put it I don't remember exactly but

And I just said, sir, I'm not going to engage with you on this.

And I finished walking out to the sidewalk.

He said a few more things.

I don't remember what they were.

And I went to the next house on my list, which is, as I said, the last house on my list.

And it was a couple of houses up.

And he calls out after me.

He says, wait a minute, you're not going to every house?

and I turned around and I said I'm going to houses that are listed as having registered Democrats living in them that is oh must have been one of those illegal ballots

and so I just ignored that and went up to that house there was nobody home so I marked them as not home on my app and luckily my route home did not have to go back past his house I could just keep going and as I'm walking away I heard him yell do you think Adam Schiff is a good candidate

and I ignored him.

Kind of got to me.

I was thinking this morning that if he wasn't just some complete stranger, if he was somebody I cared about and maybe trusted not to beat the crap out of me because I don't agree with him, I might have engaged with him and said, you know, so you think all Democrats are liars?

and you know can you tell me how you came to this conclusion or maybe get a little bit of his story but uh no i i didn't know if this guy might have a uh a glock you know tucked into his belt in his back or something like that and so i wasn't going to engage with him so that's the story i wanted to tell you this week and uh

It was an interesting day.

I've got one more thing to tell you.

I'm kind of excited about the fact that I sat down with Tom Merritt online, of course.

I wasn't at his house.

But he has a podcast called A Word with Tom Merritt.

and we discussed the word empathy and this is what I was trying to use with this this gentleman I was trying to be empathetic to his position so Tom promised me that he would send me the audio file for that and as soon as I get it I'm going to put it up as a bonus episode of Diary of a Senior Geek so look forward to that I'll put it up as soon as I get it
