Producer/host Dick Dinman and acclaimed+ author and Film Noir Foundation charter director Alan K. Rode salute the Arrow Academy Blu-ray releases of two certifiable Noir classics MY NAME IS JULIA ROSS and PHANTOM LADY. PLUS: Arrow hits the Blu-ray mark with SO DARK THE NIGHT and THE DAY OF THE JACKAL!
The Warner Archive has just released on Blu-ray legendary director Fritz Lang’s last two American-made edge-of-your-seat thrillers WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS and BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT in their original wide screen SuperScope incarnations and popular film noir author and TCM host Eddie Muller rejoins producer/host Dick Dinman as they both salute the unjustly underrated star of both films Dana Andrews.
Classic film fans must have long since given up hope that they would ever see both the 1937 A STAR IS BORN as well as the Cinerama charmer THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM on the Blu-ray format but here they are miraculously restored and looking vastly superior to their original first run engagements! Producer/host Dick Dinman and esteemed home video pioneer and Warner Media Library Historian George Feltenstein discuss the challenges inherent in bringing such amazing restorations of two certifiable film classics to Blu-ray fruition.
Part Three
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Blu-ray restoration of their classic Vincent Price horror shocker THE FLY enhances this legendary masterwork’s thrills and chills in a way never before thought imaginable and producer/host Dick Dinman’s guest Victoria Price reveals how Price and distinguished costar Herbert Marshall could barely keep a straight face while shooting THE FLY’s memorable ending and reveals some heretofore unknown aspects about this brilliant and multifaceted gentleman.
Part 2
Scream Factory’s magnificent THE VINCENT PRICE COLLECTION highlights Price’s acclaimed horror films but producer/host Dick Dinman’s guest Victoria Price sheds new light on his limitless versatility which includes his brilliant but comparatively lesser known eccentric comedy roles that he most delighted in portraying.
Part One
Scream Factory’s “spook”tacular THE VINCENT PRICE COLLECTION (which includes enticingly lustrous Blu-ray restorations of THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, THE HAUNTED PALACE, THE MASQUE OF RED DEATH, PIT AND THE PENDULUM, WITCHFINDER GENERAL, and THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES) is sure to thrill classic horror film aficionados and Vincent Price’s talented and gracious daughter Victoria joins producer/host Dick Dinman to honor her iconic star-of-the-ages father.
To commemorate Kino Lorber's stunning new 4K rendition of Billy Wilder's comedy classic SOME LIKE IT HOT producer/host Dick Dinman has "gone into his vaults" and emerged with a newly edited 31 minute version of his original three and a half hour chat with the late, great Tony Curtis that includes material never heard before.
In this final segment Kim Novak tells producer/host Dick Dinman about what she had to go through to convince tough studio boss Harry Cohn to allow her to do her most challenging role and relates her experiences with Alfred Hitchcock and Jimmy Stewart on the Hitchcock masterpiece VERTIGO as well as with an unceasingly dictatorial Kirk Douglas, an aging and amorously-inclined Fredric March, a delightful Fred Astaire, and nineteen (count ’em!) siamese cats.
Novak returns and regales producer/host Dick Dinman with her unusual take on the reputedly volcanic director Otto Preminger, her disappointingly chilly on-set non-relationship with her idol and costar Tyrone Power, as well as her experience with an incredibly uncomfortable William Holden, an extremely vulnerable Rita Hayworth, and a mercurial Frank Sinatra whose demeanor changed spectacularly from picture to picture.
Novak is that rare superstar who has for decades guarded her privacy zealously, granted few interviews and has virtually withdrawn from Hollywood’s glaring spotlight but in this three-show DVD CLASSICS CORNER ON THE AIR exclusive and comprehensive chat she and producer/host Dick Dinman celebrate Sony Picture Entertainment’s dvd release of the KIM NOVAK COLLECTION as she relates how she was virtually thrust into instant stardom and reveals her feelings about the advantages and disadvantages about this jarringly sudden fame.
