We like the feeling of being in control as we go through life, and nothing makes us feel more in control than having the ability to make choices. When problems arise, it’s empowering to have several possible alternatives to choose from. If Option A seems too difficult, or has too many strings attached, we can always go with Option B, or C, or D.
But what happens when you’re out of options? What if you’ve tried every other possible solution you know to try, and now you’re down to your last hope? You’ve got nowhere else to go if this doesn’t work out. It’s probably not that big of a deal as long as the problem is a minor one. But what if it’s not? What if it involves someone you love dearly?
Sometimes, realizing that you’re out of options isn’t the worst thing in the world. Join us on Sunday as we look at what Jesus said to a woman who had nowhere else to go, and how his words changed everything for her.
In this two part sermon series, we will be looking at some strange sayings of Jesus that don’t necessarily match up with what we might believe Jesus to say or think. This week we’ll explore Luke 14 and discuss a confusing call to hate your family in order to be a disciple. Is this Scripture the permission you finally needed to un-invite your crazy uncle to Christmas this year? Or, perhaps, does this unlikely saying of Jesus teach us more about the cost of discipleship. Join us Sunday as we wrestle with the words of Jesus and ask ourselves, “Did Jesus really say that?”
