Not one of his best!
Being a Hakan Nesser fan, this book was not his best. It is somber throughout and not even the somewhat unexpected solution of the story made up for the long road there.
"Under the trees stand the horses, dreaming."
This is the best of Swedish fiction: slow and thoughtful. It has all the deliberate, moody qualities that make Mankell or the Norwegian author Per Petterson great to read in this age of distraction. I read the German but fans of this author and genre can absolutely look forward to the English translation in the future. "Unter den Bäumen stehen die Pferde, träumend," says the German translation. "Under the trees stand the horses, dreaming." Enjoy!
