On this week’s Diggin' In with MOFB. President Garrett Hawkins joins again to host another former MOFB President, Charlie Kruse. Further discussing Farm Bureau's stance on Amendment 1 and Amendment 4 for the upcoming August election.
A YES vote on Amendment 1 continues Missouri’s existing one-tenth-of-one percent sales tax that funds state parks and historic sites, as well as critical soil and water conservation programs for another 10 years. The measure does not create a new tax or increase taxes. It renews a voter-approved funding source that has been supported by Missourians since 1984 and generates about $140 million annually for conservation and outdoor recreation. By voting yes, Missourians can help protect farmland and improve water quality, while ensuring future generations can continue to enjoy Missouri’s state parks and historic sites.
A YES vote on Amendment 4 protects Missouri’s Constitution and gives rural Missouri a voice. It strengthens the process for amending Missouri’s Constitution by requiring citizen-initiated constitutional amendments to earn a majority of support in each of Missouri’s congressional districts. This ensures constitutional changes have broad, statewide backing and keeps special interests out. It also improves election transparency and makes the full text of initiative petitions available to voters with their ballots. A yes vote sends a clear message that Missouri’s Constitution is not for sale and should serve all Missourians
