For a moment, forget everything known about pizza. Forget about the usual mozzarella-driven cheese blend on top, forget about the taste you expect from a pie, lastly, forget about the aroma you've come to expect from your favorite feel-good meal. Alright, now we are working with a clean slate, I will share some opinions and facts about the Saint Louis-style pie and why it's a regional fan favorite. Let's start with the cheese.

What kind of cheese is on this pizza? St. Louis-style pie is made with Provel, a processed blend which is said to be a mix of cheddar, provolone, as well as a swiss cheese. This cheese melts better than any other cheese since its what its designed to do. By increasing the amount of fat and doing the same for the posture during production the Provel will acquires a gooey appeal Like the one that cheese sauce has. The kind which makes people want to swipe up all the drops from the pan with your finger as you eat it. It may look unfamiliar to at first glance. Do not let this keep you from experiencing the meltiest cheese out there! There are some which may disagree on the flavor profile of Provel, but we will mention this once again since this is an objective fact, It is the meltiest cheese out there. 
What else makes Saint Louis-style pie so unique? The ultra thin pie. It's made with unleavened, yeast-free dough. Giving the texture of akin to a cracker than the traditional. The dough is capable of supporting plenty of toppings. Good thing since they like to pile all sorts of goodies right in The Gateway City. These are mad from yeast to help it rise. Saint Louis-style pie has an ultra-thin, crackery-dare we say it? Tortilla chip-like feeling. Also helping with its shelf life being longer.

Types of Pizzas Like a good plate of nachos, a Louis-style pie designed for sharing. Instead of wedges, sliced into squares. Party or tavern cut, for those of who are in on the lingo, each one about an inch along each side. Meaning Saint Louis-style pie is easily shared between two people or between ten or twelve. Unlike a regular pizza, committing yourself to more than you really want is not necessary. Take what you want and you can get right back to enjoying the game.

The ultimate day-after slice Now we will jump into talking about what we all love! Next day Pizza. You know how a day old pizza can get a little leathery in the crust? Not so with Imo's! That cracker is still a cracker the next day And even the third, whether You deign to refrigerate or not. As we previously mentioned, the dough is a little more dense and resilient than the standard pizza dough, giving It an abnormally long shelf life. 

You know what else is as fantastic on the second day as on the first? The toppings! We could sit here all day And discuss the merits of every style of pizza. We seriously are able to. And to prove it, I will let You know That discussing these merits is how the staff of The Sauce spends most of Its waking hours. But, we are not here to tell you That one style of pizza is superior to another. We can confidently say That St. Louis pizza holds up nicely as a day after treat thanks to Its unorthodox cheese And superbly thin crust.

Noted chef And Serious Eats author, J. Kanji Lopez-Alt reached a similar conclusion as he wheeled out of STL on a road trip through the Midwest.

When the yearly “most dangerous city” rankings are released, St. Louis almost invariably ranks first. It is important to analyze the technique used to compile these rankings. When they compare cities, do they take the full Metropolitan Statistical Area into account or simply the limits of St. Louis?

Our city is separated from St. Louis County, inflating violent crime statistics in comparison to other metro regions, the majority of which do not have the same city-county barrier.

While St. Louis has a higher murder rate than other cities of comparable size, it is not the city with the highest rate of all forms of violent crime. According to the 2017 FBI Crime Report, there were more rapes in Cleveland and Cincinnati, while Cleveland's robbery rate is significantly higher than St. Louis'.

Another reason the city has such a stunning per capita rate is that though the population has decreased significantly, crime inside the city has remained relatively stable.

Additionally, the city's per capita crime rate likely remains high due to individuals who visit the city during the day but do not contribute to the population base. Consider downtown, where the per capita rate seems inflated since a large number of people visit on a daily basis or for nighttime activities, and large crowds often result in increased crime, but those individuals do not reside downtown.

If you're considering a vacation to St. Louis, the first thing you should know is that our city is safe and inviting to everybody. Indeed, St. Louis is as safe as any other large American city. When visiting any urban region, tourists must maintain vigilance and awareness of their surroundings by following basic, straightforward procedures to minimize their chances of being victims of crime.

Is it safe to visit St. Louis?

In general, St. Louis is no more dangerous than any other metropolitan location. Indeed, crime in St. Louis has decreased almost 50% in the last decade (see graph below). It is critical to recognize that the bulk of criminal activity happens within a few block segments, which account for the bulk of violent crime in St. Louis. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department monitors and reacts to these regions on a proactive basis, employing cutting-edge methods, tactics, and technology to ensure the safety of local residents and tourists. While attempting to make the whole city secure for tourists and residents, the police are concentrating their efforts on lowering crime in certain high-risk neighborhoods.

Why is St. Louis often ranked as one of the most dangerous cities in the United States by the media?

Because some media outlets, in the sake of ratings and readership, seek to manipulate the yearly FBI Uniform Crime Reporting in order to compare citations, resulting in skewed, distorted, and meaningless crime rankings. The FBI, the Council of Mayors, and top criminologists all caution against comparing FBI statistics to other sources because of the varied and inconsistent geographic borders of American cities. Due to St. Louis City's limited physical limit in comparison to the much broader metro region, these rankings misinterpret the data and do not accurately portray crime in St. Louis. 

What efforts are being made in St. Louis to combat crime?

The Mayor, Downtown STL, and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department have all taken several measures to combat crime in the downtown area. Along with additional patrols, St. Louis authorities are pursuing proactive measures to combat crime, including the following:

When most people past through the area known as Dogtown (in St. Louis, Missouri), the last thing they are thinking about is mining. However, the Dogtown area within St. Louis was named after this activity that was very prominent during the 1800s. Dogtown is not an official neighborhood in St. Louis, but it is a part of the city that is made up of 5 neighborhoods.

The 5 neighborhoods that make up Dogtown include Clayton-Tamm, Franz Park, Hi-Pointe, Cheltenham, and the eastern part of Ellendale. The area of Dogtown is defined by certain boundaries. The northern part of Dogtown is defined by Oakland Avenue. He east side of the region is defined by Macklind on the east. The street of McCausland Ave is the western boundary. The southern side of Dogtown is defined by the streets Hampton and Dale Avenue. The southern part of the neighborhood goes all the way to Interstate 44 in the neighborhood of Ellendale.

The Dogtown area of St. Louis is a safe part of town though it is not crime free. Young professionals and students typically occupy this area. However, there are plenty of families in the area as well. Since the zone of Dogtown consist of 5 different neighborhoods the median income and housing prices vary. However, the average income is $58,051 per year and $203,000 is the average cost of a house in Dogtown.

Dogtown didn’t get its name from the 1904 World’s Fair. Many people believed that this name was given to this area during that time when the fair was taking place. However, Dogtown got its name from the mining communities that were found throughout the St. Louis. In the 1800s mining communities were popular all over the United States.

Many of these mining communities were established because of the popularity of gold mining during the time. When the miners established these communities, they were makeshift or temporary towns that were used to support the miners. Many of them were torn down once mining activities ceased in an area. A few of them remained and eventually became incorporated into cities.

Most mining communities during that era used the term “dog” to define them. The term dog was associated with mining because the dogs were used to perform various duties in the mining towns, and they became trusted companions to the miners. In those days, people loved the dogs, and they influenced the miner’s lives. This is one reason the name “Dogtown” can be found in various places of the United States.

Dogtown is located close to Forest Park. The area also has a mixture of homes for sale. There are old cottage houses, historic brick houses, and newly constructed places. Dogtown has a wide variety of free public places for people to visit. There are museums, a free zoo, and lots of public parks. Turtle and Frantz Parks are two popular outdoor recreational areas. The restaurants in Dogtown are also wonderful places to visit.

Pat’s Bar and Grill, Olympia Kabob House and Tavern, and the Stone Turtle are favorite places for young adults and couples to visit. There is even the High-Point Drive-in that provides food and movies for customers. Dogtown has a lot of things to do for residents. Dogtown in the St. Louis area is thought of as a decent neighborhood that is energizing and entertaining.

You don’t have to head over to the Mississippi River to New Orleans when one of the biggest Mardi Gras parties in the country takes place right here in the Show-Me State. St. Louis Mardi Gras has its own rich tradition with the annual Soulard Mardi Gras, which celebrates almost four decades of letting loose in south St. Louis’ iconic Soulard community.

How did St. Louis' Mardi Gras become the colossal event that it is today? Let us begin by addressing a common question:

What is Mardi Gras?

Mardi Gras, which translates as “Fat Tuesday” in French, is inextricably linked to the Roman Catholic Church’s Lenten season rituals and the cities of New Orleans and Rio de Janeiro. Carnival is the name given to this event in Rio de Janeiro. In the United States, the Mardi Gras festival originated in 1703 with a party of French immigrants in Mobile, colonial French Louisiana’s first capital. Since Louisiana’s territorial capital was relocated to New Orleans in 1723, the Mardi Gras festival traveled with it and has since been associated with the city’s name.

St. Louis, like New Orleans, has a deeply French tradition. In 1763, Pierre Laclède established the community. Soulard started as part of Antoine and Julia Soulard’s farm. Antoine, a staunch supporter of King Louis XVI, fled France to save his head and ended up in St. Louis through New Orleans, marrying into the powerful Cerre dynasty. Surprisingly, these French origins had nothing to do with Soulard’s Mardi Gras background.

Antoine Soulard Mardi Gras started in December 1979 as a bit of a lark by five lonely guys searching for a way to light up the freezing winter in St. Louis. Hilary Clements, Bob Brinkmann, James Rabbitt, Bill Stubbs, and Bill Coleman met in a downtown bar to organize a large group to ward off the winter blues. With Fat Tuesday approaching, Hilary proposed that Mardi Gras will be an excellent theme for their group. He’d recently bought a three-story house in Soulard, which eventually became known as Johnny’s Restaurant & Bar.
