On this, EpIsode 13 of Season 3, we are truly excited to bring you our second and equally powerful keynote from DOCSF 2020. Ivan Poupyriev is the Director of Engineering at Google. When I first heard Ivan speak at TED 2019, I had the impression that I had been given the opportunity to peak just over the horizon and get a glimpse of the future of computing. I knew there and then that we should try to get Ivan to speak at DOCSF. I was able to connect with him thanks to some friends at google and we started a great conversation. That conversation lead to his agreeing to share his vision with our audience from the DOCSF Stage. It was awesome.
The Venue:
This conversation was recorded at DOCSF in January 2020, the weekend before #JPM Week in San Francisco. DOCSF is all about the intersection of digital health and musculoskeletal care.

On this, Episode 12 of Season 3, we present the fourth case study from DOCSF 2020. Apprentice Health is focused on the use of artificial intelligence and sensors to optimize the use of fixed resources in the context of the outpatient clinic. Their pilot study at Duke University was so successful that Duke decided to deploy them system wide. That sort of success suggests that the technology addressed a real pain point. To tell us more we invited the CEO and founder of Apprentice health, Dr. Rajiv Sivendran who put his residency training on hold to start his company. He will be presenting to Mark Goldstein, Chair of UCSF HealthHub and his expert panel. Let’s join them on stage at DOCSF 2020.

On Episode 11 of Season 3, we are presenting the third of our case studies. Our third company is aptly named Inspiren, a hybrid sensing platform that leverages computer vision, environmental sensing, and IoT connectivity to analyze, understand and respond to the patient’s physical environment. It is a company that caught our attention because of two reasons: the first is that it solves a real problem we see everyday in the hospital, and the second is that its founder is a nurse. Who better than a nurse to solve a nursing problem? Here to inspire us about Inspiren is the Founder and CEO Michael Wang RN, in conversation with Mike Ryan, Chair of the advisory board at DOCSF, on the DOCSF stage.
On this, Episode 10 of Season 3, we will be focusing on solving problems and executing strategies in the outpatient setting. The theme is “managing patients in the best venue”. That could mean in a virtual venue, at home, at a remote clinic, in the inner city or on a smart device. And what will the advent of 5G and high-speed connectivity mean for delivery platforms? Let’s take a deep dive in the next chapter of digital health delivery because caring for all patients in the most expensive hotels on the planet is not a solution we can afford. We will be hearing from Dr. Christopher Schlanger the Digital Lead for Population Health at the Mercy Health Care system and Darren Sabo the Principal for Emerging Countries for Orange, the European Communications company leading the charge in 5G. Dr. Daniel Kraft the founder and chair of Exponential Medicine will be moderating and you know he’s going to do a great job. Lets join them on the stage at DOCSF.

On this episode 9 of season 3, we introduced a new feature at DOCSF called Energy Boost... and, well, we liked it... A lot. Orthopaedics is all about restoring motion and maintaining musculoskeletal health. So we took a moment to celebrate the technologies and ideas that keep us well. We asked Matt Wilpers, one of the founding instructors at Peloton, to join us all the way from NYC from where he coaches. We love Matt. And so do thousands of people who ride with him and take his classes around the planet every day. He is going to investigate the power of digital tools to change behavior. And to really get down to core principles we were lucky enough to have Dr Vonda Wright, Chief of Northside Hospital Orthopaedic Institute for Sports Medicin ein Atlanta, as his moderator. She has authored two books, appeared as medical expert across the networks and is a strong advocate for womens health and wellness in general. Let’s join Matt as he takes the microphone on the DOCSF Stage. By the way, it was odd to see Matt wearing a suit...

This is Episode 8 of Season 3 of the digital orthopaedics podcast. We in healthcare are not, alas, the first to digitize an entire sector of the economy. Oddly, we are the last. Let’s just say that we wanted everyone else to get all the kinks sorted out first. And since we get to go last, let’s not repeat the same mistakes. Let’s learn from the past. Let’s learn from the Banking Industry. Javier Escobedo had a front seat during the tech boom in banking and will share with us the lessons learned while digitizing the banking sector.
After speaking for over an hour at TED 2019 with Javier, I knew we had to bring him to DOCSF to share his lessons with our audience. Javier did not disappoint. Lets join him as he takes the microphone on the DOCSF stage in San Francisco.

On this, Episode 7 of Season 3, we bring you our second case study focused on the inpatient space: asparia.com. Asparia is a chat bot interface deeply embedded in EHRs like EPIC, and used to engage with patients based on triggers from the electronic health record. Chat bots are a big deal in the healthcare space and we expect them to have a big impact on our ability to manage incoming calls to busy clinics and hospitals. Please join Dan Kendall from the Digital Health Today podcast as our moderator and Chinmay Singh, CEO of Asparia, on the DOCSF Stage.

On this Episode 6 of Season 3, we bring you the first case study. At DOCSF, the case studies follow the focus lectures and are designed to make the theory of the lectures practical realities. To do so, we ask a successful digital health company to explain how they were able to deploy their technology in the healthcare space. We will now listen in... as Neeraj Bhavari, CEO of tagnos, explains to our moderator, Roberto Ascione CEO of Healthware International, and his panel of experts how RFID technology and artificial intelligence can partner to solve complex scheduling challenges in the operating room setting. Let’s join Neeraj on the DOCSF Stage.

Our guests:
On this, Episode 5 of Season 3, we bring you Kevin Bozic, MD MBA, Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas to discuss the opportunities for digital technologies in the inpatient setting. He is followed by Molly McCarthy, chief Nursing officer at Microsoft who will speak about Microsoft’s efforts and partnerships with traditional implant companies such as Stryker to solve real problems with Virtual Reality and other technologies. Then Sandra Schmit, Assistant medical Group administrator for Perioperative Services at Kaiser Permanent Oakland will lead the Q&A. Two world class speakers and an experienced Operating Room Director as moderator: We’ve got you covered. Lets join them on the DOCSF Stage.
Our guest:
This is Episode 4 of Season 3 of the Digital Orthopaedics Podcast. DOCSF is famous for bringing outside thinking to our healthcare audience. From the CEO of Niantic (think: Poke’mon Go) speaking about how to scale augmented reality to change behavior, to the Chief Product Officer of UnderArmour speaking about how their sportswear company is becoming a data company with 230 million people on its platforms, DOCSF shows our audience what others are doing with digital tools outside of healthcare. For 2020 our first awesome Keynote is from Gary Kovacs. When I interviewed Gary about this role, it was clear that his depth of understanding of what it takes to execute on a strategy was exactly what we needed to kick off DOCSF with a bang. Gary is asked to speak frequently at Davos, the World Economic Forum and TED, has lead companies to major exits and run large divisions of the largest tech companies like, for example, IBM. Gary gave an outstanding presentation. Lets join him on stage at DOCSF 2020.
